New with 6-month wait. :-(

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm Kerry. Had my consultation today and was told that my insurance requires a 6-month period of supervised diet and exercise before approving weight-loss surgery. Plus, it'll be more out-of-pocket than I originally thought. Bummer. But, I'm still overall excited and 6 months to try to lose some weight on my own and practice discipline isn't a bad thing, right?

Hi Kerry,

Look at it this way. At least now you know what your time lines are. :) I don't even have my consult for three more weeks and until then I get to go crazy with is it this or is it that thoughts.

How long did you have to wait for your consult? Did you attend a seminar first?

Practice is good - and nothing bad should come from that, right?

Girl, the six months fly by! I was where you were and I had my surgery on Monday! It's so worth it!

Yeah I did the 6 month deal as well. It's great training for watching what you eat after you have the band!

I, too, had the 6-month wait, but mine stretched into 10 months because I got pneumonia in the middle of it. Use the time to get a head start on losing. I lost almost 45 pounds in the pre-op diet and feel like I had a great start to the rest of my life. I got used to eating more like I do now so it wasn't so much of a shock after surgery.

Good luck!

Thanks for your encouragement! I went to a seminar a week ago yesterday, then I had my consult the following Wednesday. At least, that went quickly! I know that the time will pass, what with tests and the holidays, but I want to be thinner NOW! I guess I've got six months to work on my patience, too.

Thanks, all, for your encouragement! I already feel better reading the posts here. And, frankly, I'm a bit relieved that I've got time to get all of my tests done and to adjust to the new lifestyle. Maybe the 6-month wait is a good thing, after all.

I, too, was told I had a 6 month physician approved weight loss program to attend before my insurance would approve my surgery - this is a learning time for you, to get as much info as possibl, and take advantage of the time in the classes! You meet people who are in the same boat you are, and you look forward to your next meeting.

I also recommend calling your insurance company to verify what your coverage is - be your own advocate, and get all the information of your coverage.

Best of luck - this six months will fly by!

Hi, I'm new here. Very new. Like, this is my first post! I'm in the insurance limbo phase myself (I know my insurance covers it, but I don't know what hoops they're making me jump through just yet...) and the anticipation is killing me! I'm just curious though: for those of you who had to do the six month monitored diet and exercise program, would you mind if I asked what insurance provider you have?

I agree that regardless of our impatience to start our new life, it's gotta be a good thing overall, but yeah...if there's even the slightest chance I'm gonna need that I want to start making calls and appointments now! I am beyond anxious!

Thanks in advance for your replies!

I am currently in the 6 month phase as well. I started in February and go in for my 2nd nutritionist appointment this week. I'm doing the diet/excerise program - so I'm not sure how my progress is going. I know exactly how you feel, good luck to you!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
