I'm scheduled and I'm scared!!!

Recommended Posts

After many years (25) of yo-yo dieting I've reached my limit. Over the last 4 years I have encountered numerous medical issues due to my weight and I don't know what scares me more..going through with the surgery, or the potential for heart disease, diabetes, etc... I feel like this is my last shot and I'm afraid of failure. But at the same time I'm excited...does that make any sense???

Makes perfect sense to me. I, too, and excited at the possibility of success, but afraid of the possibility of failure. So, I guess that just means that we can't fail! :)

Congrats, I was scared too! I had my surgery on Monday! You go to sleep and they wake you up and it's over! I had an excellent surgical team and I was relaxed before I went under! Where you have it makes all of the difference in the world! Good luck! You'll be fine!

It does make sense. For me, just the thought of finally accepting that this is a well-suited alternative makes me excited. Does that make sense? For so long I've resisted this because "it's better to do it on your own" or so "they" claim. What "they" don't realize is that I can lose the weight but I cannot keep it off. And everytime I gain it back, I gain back more. So doing something proactive that, coupled with my desire for success, will lead to a better quality of life, it's exciting. There's no other word better suited for the feeling!

I just want to know how long I have to wait, that's all. Yay for being scheduled! From where I'm sitting - that's the part that's going to drive me crazy!

Hi LULU140,

I to am afraid. I have been yo-yo dieting since my 20's. and i think the fear of another failure is probably the worst. I sit and think about what if i do not succeed or what if I fail myself like in the past. But, I am also afraid of diabetes, heart disease and all those other things that are caused by being over weight. WE SHALL GET OVER ALL THAT ONCE ITS ALL OVER. AND WE ARE LOOKING AND FEELING OUR BEST. KEEP IN TOUCH LET ME KNOW HOW THINGS ARE GOING. PATIENCE

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
