Difficult Time with Pureed Stage

Recommended Posts

First off it is appearant (sp?) that everyone's Dr gives different rules. I was to be on liquid protiens for the first 2 weeks and pureed for the next 3.5. The pureed Diet is to be low fat and low carb. A few days before my first fill I was to start normal foods chopped up very small.

I was banded Sep 3rd. I shut down on the 6th and couldnt drink another thing. I wound up in the ER on the 8th for dehydration and potential c-dif (tested negative).

After asking the Doctor to move on to pureed a week early he said it wasnt ideal but if that was the only way to get protien, do it.

Here I am 3 weeks into pureed foods and I have had enough! First off, i have not been able to eat chicken or turkey out of a blener as the nutritionist recomends. I am eating egg beaters in the morning, tuna with low cal mayo for lunch and flakey white fish for dinner. It has been every day for the last 3 weeks. I have to go another 1.5 like this and am going crazy. The food is making me want to puke. I just want to eat a true solid. I am considering starting the next stage early but dont want to hurt myself.

Does anyone have any input for this phase or moving on to other (more normal foods)

On the good side, since starting the pre-op diet 5 weeks ago, I have lost 45 LBS!

Eric

I've gotten creative and have not minded it at all

Chile - lean ground meat/beans/ pomi/ spices

I do blend this and I don't mind it. I sometimes melt cheese on it for an extra treat (I try and stay within 35 grams of fat but sometimes i will go up to 60).

I LOVE the lemon sole - I do use 1/2 tbspn butter and a lemon and pan fry i can live on this

blended chicken is pretty gross i agree - i bought some Soup and added that into the Soup so that it seems more like mashed soup. i have done it with vichysoisse soup and avgolemono

fat free refried Beans, cheese melted and also flax seed meal (good for your hair).

fage 0% yogurt and honey

get lo fat ricotta - and mix some Tomato or marinara sauce and melt mozzarella on it (this one i screwed up and got the skim version and its too much fat so I don't eat it too much).

Hi Eric,

Wow, you've lost quite a lot so far. Guess that's what happens when you cahn't eat. If you're eating the same thing everyday, no wonder you're going nuts. Try adding new things to your menu. Baked ricotta cheese with Tomato sauce & parmasan, greek yogurt, mashed potatoes, oatmeal, pureed Soups, etc. You'll find lots of ideas in the nutrition section of the forum.

Hang in there. Its worth it.

Joan

Egg salad with celery seed was a good one for me!

Also, pureed sweet potatoes. If you puree canned chicken it turns out better than regular fresh cooked chicken and then add some low fat gravy to it. Good with the sweet potatoes or regular mashed potatoes. Also pumpkin pie with no crust made with splenda. I like "holiday" type foods so it was tasty for me..

Cottage cheese with mango baby food was tasty.

Splenda.com has good recipes for cheesecakes that you can make without a crust and have sugar free jam or pureed fruit on it. I have one of their cookbooks and found one in there that was good and high Protein.

I like Fage Greek yogurt also with some sugar free jam

You will make it through!!

I'm 2.5 weeks post-op, and my problem right now with pureed foods is the texture. Having something basically pre-chewed for me is really grossing me out. So far, I've done ok with some extremely moist boiled chicken breast (so tender I can separate with a fork), cut into tiny bites and chewed until it's liquid in my mouth. I have also done some tofu with red curry sauce (not too spicy), and chewed it to a mush. The only food I've been able to actually puree and eat was some ground beef from a shepherd's pie I made. For whatever reason, the pureed beef doesn't gross me out. Maybe because it's not stringy like chicken. I'm going to try some grilled catfish this weekend, because I know that's really moist and soft, and at least something different.

For some strange reason, my doc's post-op diet doesn't include carbs of any kind until week 4. So that means no Beans, potatoes, cream of wheat, oatmeal, or anything like that. I fudged a little bit and made some dumplings to go with my chicken, but I cooked them to a mush, so it's more like thickened broth anyway. Sigh. I miss my veggies. I am craving salad.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
