Hi everyone!! So I made the decision to have the LB procedure, which wasn't a very hard one for me. My surgery date is December 22, 2009. I'm sooo nervous!! I am currently in nursing school and I am having the surgery over my winter break. I only have 2 weeks until I need to go back to school after my surgery and I am nervous that I won't be ready. I know everybody heals differently so I am going to stay positive because the mind definatly has an effect on the body. I'm so excited to be a part of this "club"!!

Hi Rachel! Welcome to LBT! This is such a wonderful place and you’re going to find many resources to all your questions, just like I did when I was researching the band two years ago now.

Looks like your surgery is only a few days before Christmas! What a great gift that would be huh? No worries though, I’m sure you will pull through with flying colors… and yes, welcome to the “club”. J

Hi Rachel, and welcome to LBT.

My best advice to you for healing quickly is to follow all of your doctor's instructions. Be sure and stay hydrated because it seems that dehydration is one of the major reasons people end up back in the hospital. Be sure and walk a little every hour to keep the blood flowing in your legs. If your doc gives you a spirometer to breath into, do that as instructed as well to help keep your lungs clear. Most importantly, try not to over do it during the holidays. Recline and rest as much as you can the first few days to help with the healing process. Being young is definitely on your side, so barring any unforeseen post-op issues, you should be more than ready for your classes.

Good luck!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
