What are the symptoms of a kidney stone

Recommended Posts

If anyone has ever experienced a kidney stone I would love to know what the symptoms are.

The reason I am asking is that this afternoon I got an excrutiating pain on my left lower side/back.Located somewhere around the kidney area(I think). It doesn't feel muscular and I don't have any other symptoms which would indicate a urinary tract infection or anything like that.

I took some paracetomol and had to lie down for an hour.It seems to have eased off at the moment.I don't think that it is anything band related.

Obviously if it recurs I will speak to my Dr.(Dumb thing is I was at my GP this morning for something else and no I'm not a hypochondriac)

In my experience however by the time they run tests for anything the problem seems to have cleared up.For example a couple of years ago I had a couple of episodes where I woke in the middle of the night with the most agonising pain which lasted for a couple of hours. The most likely explanation was a gall bladder problem but when they did the scans nothing showed up! Luckily i haven't had a recurrence.

Input appreciated.

OMG if you have one you will know and the pain will not go away. you could of just had some muscle pain from activities or workouts. when it happens again go in right away and be tested for a UTI even if your pee is not a dark color. it also sounds like it could be something other then your kidneys! trust me on this i had to have surgery on them at the age 5 and get kidney infections and UTIs all the time. but if you are worried the best thing would be to go in and talk to the doctor about it. but to me it sounds like you get some muscle cramps. also do you fell this around mid month of your period? that could be it too.

hope this helps out

Pain and more pain is what you feel with a stone until it passes. However, I have been told at support group that a lot of banders have gall bladder problems after being banded and the gall bladder can throw out pain/symptoms all over the body. When I had mine out, it felt like a heart attack with one episode but the next one felt like severe muscle cramp in my back. Go figure!

Anyway, call your physician and talk with him about it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
