How are the Awesome August banders doing?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Aug 5th. Tomorrow I go for my 1st fill. I can't wait! I was steadily loosing 2-3 lbs a week up until 2 weeks ago. I have not lost anything. I haven't gained either, but it is very frustrating because I am hungry every 3 hours. I can definately eat more than 1/2 a cup of food, but try not to. I am working off of will power and exercise. I hope after my fill I will begin to loose again. My biggest fear is to fail using this tool!

I totally know what you mean about being afraid of failing with the band. I feel that way too... I have not lost any weight since surgery, actually gained about 4lbs. I just don't understand it, I am hungry all the time. I just had my first fill yesterday and I serously wonder, how do I Know that he actually put the saline in the band? How does he even know exactly where to put it? Ahhh I am so upset right now.

Me too, I am trying not to weigh myself every darn day! LOL

QUOTE]

My surgeon actually recommends weighing daily. The idea behind doing so is so that any upward fluctuations that happen can be managed before they become larger gains. I know the past couple of weeks fighting with the same two pounds for me has been frustrating, but I think weighing daily keeps me honest. It does cause me to pay very close attention to what I am putting in my mouth, because I very much want the number on the scale to start going down consistently again. I know that the many times I did Weight Watchers I felt like I could be "bad" for a couple of days after a weekly weigh in and then would starve myself for a couple of days prior to weigh in. I actually feel like less of a slave to the scale by weighing daily than only doing it once a week. Maybe I am just odd LOL. :) Can't hardly wait to see how my first fill impacts my progress!

Hi all!! I was banded on August 5th and so far have lost 26 pounds. My appetite has picked up a great deal and i have minimal restriction. I do go for my second fill on the 9th of October and am hopeful that it will do the trick. It is VERY frustrating!!! But I am hanging in there. I know that i probably should not be complaining and nobody else understands this but I know that my LBT family will. When you lose and gain the same 2-3 pounds every week, it is so frustrating. And I can eat WHATEVER and HOWEVER much i want so all of this weight loss thus far has been COMPLETELY willpower and not band..I am so hopeful that this 2nd fill does it for me. I am not expecting "magic" but I am expecting help, restriction or whatever word you want to give it...I exercise 4-5 days per week..just really frustrated right now and wanted to vent..Good luck to everyone and I will keep you posted!!:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
