So I think I've been through the full range of "pre-banding" emotions! I was super anxious and excited and couldn't wait, then I was nervous, scared and questioned if I was making the right decision and now I'm just excited and ready! I am totally at peace as far as the process and how long it may take. I feel well educated and informed about what I'm about to go through.

I hopefully will have an answer by either Friday or Monday as far as finding out if I have pre-auth. I have a BMI of 38 and a diagnosis of Hypertension - from what I understand, I meet my insurance company's requirements (I have Health First Health Plans, a local company) and they do not require a 6 month diet. The insurance lady at my surgeon's office has given me a couple of mixed answers, first she said I needed either a BMI of 40 or 35 and a co-morbidity, but today she told me my history looked good but we "may have trouble" - so who knows? I feel pretty confident about things, but we'll see! If I get approved right away I may be able to have surgery as soon as October 19th! WOOHOO!! :tongue2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
