August 2009 BANDits Status Report 9/28/2009

Hey just wondering, I have issues with swelling here and there, my blood pressure is now a little weird the top number is great but my bottom number is still off a little, I am off of BP medication, and I haven't checked my blood sugar yet, however, this past two weeks was my first TOM since the surgery and my cravings were really bad, I noticed that I can eat almost anything but some foods take a minute to go down than others. I am due for my second fill on Monday and I think I am available for one more before I am done with my post-op visits, I am not sure how many I can have after that period via my insurance. My weight loss has fluctuated all this week I just started working out on a regular basis but it is hard with my schedule. I just can't wait till I hit my sweet spot and just can't eat those forbidden foods...

Hi All,

Just an update.

I got off tract on my eating because I was bummed about being right on with my diet and exercise and not losing weight. :frown:

Then I didn't get my first fill because my incisions weren't healed enough. :w00t:

But...Reading everyone's posts helps me know we are all in this together. It's a struggle but the year plus bandsters' posts let us newbies know that it does work.

I decided to set a first goal and then my ultimate goal. My ticker reflects my 1st goal, 208. For my height, 5' 10", that's when I will no longer be in the obese catagory.

My final goal is the top of "normal" weight BMI, 173.

How are all of you setting your goals?

Good Journey,

Maggie

I am strugging with making good food decisions. I can eat anything! I knew from the start that this would be a journey. I have turned to food for comfort for many years. I have not had a fill, but I am sheduled for November. To be honest, I am afraid of getting a fill. If I can't eat something, how will make myself feel better. I am 195 as of this morning (gained from last week). I have been going through some family and work problems. I have yet to find a balance of coping with stress and not eating. Don't get me wrong, I am please with the 22 lbs of weight loss, but I could be doing better.

Howdy Ya'll-

I'm happy to report nearly 27 lbs lost total from my highest weight. I was banded 8/27 and got a 4cc fill on 9/30. I was in for my 6 week nutrition appt and had lost nearly 4 lbs since the fill. I get fuller faster now, with the little restriction i've got going on, but still know that more is needed.

My next fill is 10/21 and I just hope to continue losing until then. I'm not exercising much, always have good intentions, just never follow through. I'm going to get better.

My clothes fit better and looser now, hoping to toss some of my big stuff soon, but still able to wear everything, just more comfortably.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
