Banded 9/22/09 and I'm soooo hungry! Is this normal?

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I was banded last week and it's been relatively easy (except when I got an inflamed bladder infection and ended up in the ER Saturday at 4AM!) But aside from that glitch, I haven't been hungry, the pain is minimal (stopped pain meds at this time) and I've felt pretty good! That is, until early this morning when I woke up to ravenous hunger pangs! I drank my 2 oz. Protein and then 2 oz. more. No relief. All day, no matter what I drink, I'm still starving! Is this normal? Does anyone have any suggestions? I just made dinner for my physically fit and starving jock family and the smell of the garlic bread is enough to make me faint!!!!

More than likely, the swelling has started going down in your tummy and that is why you are starting to experience hunger. Remember, the band is designed to work with fill in it. Right now, you probably have very little. What you are experiencing is normal. Once you reach proper restriction, which may take from 1-3 fills, you will not feel so hungry anymore and you will get full very quickly.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
