Ok, so, Soup and pureed foods are completely making me sick. Just the thought of them make me sick. I don't know what to do. I have been eating small, soft items that I can chew to pureed consistancy. I don't know, I feel like I have completely fallen off the wagon and I am scared that I am going to stretch my pouch or cause my band to slip, but its like now that I have started eating again I can't stop myself. Its almost like I have lost interest in the band. Has anyone experienced this? I feel like such a failure.

Talk to your doctor and see if you can move to mushies (mashed potatoes, refried Beans, oatmeal, etc.). STICK WITH THIS, DON’T GIVE UP:cursing:. You probably paid a lot of money and have certainly suffered pain and inconvenience, this part won’t last forever – believe me. Once you get past recovery and bandster hell, it starts getting easier. You can eat regular foods (just a lot less) and you will start to see the rewards of your hard work.

Come on, nobody said this would be easy – just hang in there. I can tell you from personal experience that being thin is certainly worth the short term discomfort and inconvenience you are experiencing now.

When do you get to move to solid foods? I was banded on the 23rd and I get to start mushies on Thursday then 2 weeks on them and I move to Solid foods. I did 2 weeks prior and as of this morning I am down 20 lbs. I am finding it pretty tough right now but I try to focus on the next stage. To me Mushies open up alot more choices. chicken salad, tuna salad. Refried Beans. All kinds of stuff. Or at least all kinds of stuff relative to what I am eating now. Good luck and hang in there,

Greg

Wow, a few days short of a month and you're still on liquids? At 10 days, I was advanced to mushy food and 10 days after that to solids. I think a conversation with your doc is in order. You need to at least be moved to mushy food NOW and find out when solids come in. And, BTW, mushy food is a huge step because you can puree almost anything, LOL, so even if it isn't really mushy to start with you can make it be.

ok, I definitely will talk to my dr. Thank you all so much. I was afraid to post that because I thought everyone would chastise me, but you guys are great. Its so cool to have all of this support, especially since my family isn't that interested in what I am going through or doing. So thanks again, everyone!

Hey, I just wanted to say hang in there! I also agree -- you should speak to your doc. For me it was 3 days on Clear Liquids, then 2 weeks on full liquids, and then 2 weeks on mushies so by this time I had moved to mushy food.

Also, we started out at about the same weight, and we have the same goal weight, so maybe we can encourage each other along! Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
