htrammel 0 Posted September 28, 2009 So I go in Monday morning 9/21 for my band. All goes well, I'm sipping Water a few hours later, try a little broth, all seems good. I check out and go home. (BCBS had authorized inpatient, but I knew I'd be more comfy at home). At home I have a bit of broth, and a nap. A bit of water and broth when I wake and then the pain started. Upper chest pain, hiccups, trying to burp. I assume I drank too fast and will just need to tough it out for an hour or so. 4 hours later it's even worse. The Doc says to go back to the hospital and he'll admit me. At the ER they do an EKG and chest x-ray for precautions. By then I'm throwing up what looks like foamy soap. My Doc decides that the band he installed was maybe a bit small, but wants to see if the swelling will go down. I stayed in the hospital from Monday night until Thursday night with nothing by mouth, not even an ice chip. Finally my Dr decides to install a different band and we got that done about 10pm Thur night. Was out of the hospital by Friday afternoon. All is great since then. I did lose 10lbs during the time I was in the hospital and have dropped 4 more lbs sonce coming home. Oh well, at least I know what awaits me if I ever push the envelope and try to overload my new stomach.
hdmdavid 0 Posted September 28, 2009 Wow...that sucks. I read horror stories like this one and I'm incredibly thankful that I didn't experience a similar episode. David
htrammel 0 Posted September 28, 2009 Yeah David, it definitely wasn't fun. On the bright side though, it sure gave my weight loss a jump start. One week after the FIRST surgery, I'm down 18#.
The Fireman 1 Posted October 3, 2009 Same thing happened to me,only I went from banding on Monday until finally being admitted to the hospital on Thursday night.Went without antything from thursday night until Sunday morning when I returned to surgery and had the 10cc band replaced with a 14cc.I would have probably tried to tough it out to except for the fact that my daughter is an RN and she reconized the signs of severe dehydration and took ne to the ER where IV fluids were started.Weight loss was not a problemI lost 18 pounds the first 13 days.
