8cc in 11cc band and no restriction!!!!HELP!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I am losing faith in my band.............I had 3 fills with 8cc in 11cc band and I feel very mild restriction. I don't know if I am one of those for whom band doesn't work, but I am scared. I heard stories of people losing late but I am 3 months post op and have lost only 1/2 a pound. What should I do? PLEASE HELP ME.......................what if 3 more cc's won't make any change??????????? Sometimes I wish I had gone for gastric bypass but I chickened out. Is anyone else in the same boat as me?

Don't despair. I have the 9cc Realize band and it wasn't until I got more than 9cc that I had true lasting restriction. I think I've read that most people get good restriction with the band I have at around 7.5cc, but I was stubborn..lol

I was worried each time my restriction seemed to almost disappear, but my final fill was "the fill" that stayed with me. I have what I consider perfect restriction now and it hasn't changed a bit in two months.

Thanks Kiz!!!!! I have realize band also. I wish I got the restriction you are talking about. I never heard getting more fills above the capacity of the band. May be thats what I might need. How many fills you had before you felt the restriction?

I had restriction after most fills, I got them monthly and at least once after two weeks, but it wasn't until my last fill of 0.5cc that I really knew it was "the one". My doctor wants us to eat only 1/2 cup meals, and up until this last fill, I generally tried to stop at 1/2 cup, but I didn't feel a true sense of satiety and I would get hungry relatively quickly. Now, when I eat 1/2 cup, I feel that feeling of satisfaction and it lasts for over four hours most meals. Also, if I ate much more than 1/2 cup, I'd feel tight and over-full.

The closer you get to good restriction, the less fill you need to make huge changes. You may end up being like me and need to push the limit, but chances are, you won't. My doctor only has a few patients with the Realize Band that needed to go over 9cc to get good restriction.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
