Wisdom Teeth Removal....

Recommended Posts

Ok so, anyone else had the lapband and THEN have their wisdom teeth out?

My main issues are,

1: A little curious as to how much weight I might lose(it'd be awesome if it broke my plateau even if by a pound!)

2: Did it hurt?

and the most important

3. if I can't eat a lot of food, especially not solid, I'm worried about feeling like crap. For instance, one week I lost my appetite completely, lived off liquids pretty much. Didn't do it intentionly...however when my appetite returned my stomach had shrunk SOOOO much that when I tried to eat it hurt, the first bite got stuck and I felt absolutely horrible. Any suggestions as to what I can eat that won't let my pouch shrink?

I work in the dental field (12 years). You will be eating "normal" by the 2nd or 3rd day. mushy and/or liquid the first day or so. Just do not use a straw to avoid dry socket.

It may be enough to break your plateau, but you don't have to starve after you get your wisdom teeth out.

since you are in the dental field, how painful will it be without pain meds? Most pain meds don't work on me for some reason...so I'm hoping it won't be too bad. I have trigeminal neuralgia and if the pain is bad it might set that off:scared2:

Everyone is different with the pain.

Your youth is on your side. The younger you are, the easier they are to get out and the quicker you heal. The roots have not formed all the way like they will be when you are 30. This means less trauma to you during the extractions.

I got mine out when I was 30 and took the pain meds (usually vicodin is the Rx) for only the first night and next day. The anesthesia kinda messes with me, so I slept most of that time anyway.

My son got his out a week before he turned 18. It only took them about 15 minutes to get out all 4 teeth. That is where his age helped. He came home and went outside to work on his project car. I went and told him he should rest/ lay down. He said "why"? I said "hello! You just had your wisdom teeth out." he told me he was fine and that was the end of that. I think he took one dose of the pain meds before he went to bed that night and didn't take any more.

Most people will not have it as easy as he did, but it usually isn't as bad as they think.

Other things make a difference too. Like who is taking them out. Are you going to oral surgery or is your general dentist doing it?

Usually the worst part about getting your wisdom teeth out is the fear of getting them out.

I hope I helped you.

My experience with getting my wisdom tooth (only one removed) was much different than what Hummingbird posted. Now, mine was impacted so I believe that involved some more work. I was also not put under as the dental insurance I had at the time didn't cover it. I thought it was really painful. I couldn't eat solid foods for a week and after that I developed dry socket. Aaagh! It was horrible. I was on pain meds for 2 weeks. It was much worse than my recovery from LAP-BAND® surgery.

I hope yours isn't like that. I would prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Are you planning on taking off from work/school for awhile? I would take off a week just in case and you can always go back early if you're feeling better.

I had all 4 taken out at once (about 30 years ago). When I woke up, I had a tube shaped icepak full of shaved ice that could be sort or wrapped around my jaw. I used the icepak that night at home. No swelling, no pain. My wisdom teeth were impacted AND malposed.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
