Hello to all in the Forum

I am a "newby" having been banded in Perth by Tony Keireth on 17th September. (A nice bloke and an excellent surgeon).

Going OK so far and seem to have lost the pangs of hunger which is encouraging!

Any members in the Albany area??

K

Hi,

Thanks for response, I was begining to think there was no one out there.

I am not sure when I see Tony, but I am lucky in that he visits Albany quite often. Early next month I think. I am feeling better by the day. How are you going and what are you eating?? Wher did you have your OP??

Hi K

I am not in your area - in tassie, but I was banded on 3rd sept.......

I have found this a great site to read what others have been through and where they are at now.

SO far so good at my end - I am about 6kg down in week 4. Would have liked more off by now - but I am being realistic and getting anything off has to be better than a gain!!! Also i was not in the morbidly obese range to start with and was well aware that having less to lose would be reflected with a smaller initial loss.

I am onto mushie food - ah heaven!!! the food processor has become my new best friend. Last night I got brave and had some spag bog with the Pasta chopped up very finely. That was really good.

WEll I hd better go as it is time for my daily walk...........Looking forward to seeing how you progress.

Sal,

Thanks for your post. I have just received a set of medical (accurate) scales I purchased to record my weight. Today is day 13 and I have lost just over three kg. From what I have read that is OK.

I did not have the "clear fluid" period and have been eating small quantities of food through the blender (veggies and a bit of well cooked chicken all mushed etc)

Blended spag boll sounds good. Have you felt less hungry??

Really missing a slice of bread with a bit of butter!!

All the best

K

oh you lucky thing missing out on the Fluid stage - as much as I love Soup i reckon it may be while before I venture back to it!! my dr recommended 3 weeks of it - I barely lasted 2 and had enough.

generally I am not feeling overly hungy - today being the exception!!!! most days I get to about 2 pm before getting a bit of a niggle - so I am pretty happy with that.

I had a very soft cooked omlette on Sunday at about 2 ish and did not feel like anything else until the next day. Brilliant!

I am really missing cheese, just as you are missing bread and butter. What I would give for a creamy wedge of camerbert right now..........note to self - must not obsess :tongue2:

better go and get my kids sorted.

talk soon

hi k

Yes I know what you mean it sometimes seems like you are the only one out there .

I was done at bethesda hospital in perth unfortunately dr keorath doesn'tt come up to kalgoorlie so i have to go to perth to see him.My next appointment is 20th october so will be interesting to see how i go.

My blender is also my best friend .I usually have a up n go for Breakfast cup of Soup for lunch and blended meat fish or chicken with vegies n gravy but must admit if hubby wasn't watching what i eat i would probably give lunch a miss as i find i'm not really hungry just eating the right things making sure i get the right nourishment. jacquie

Hi Jacquie,

I was done at The Mount as I had to spend a bit of time in intensive care (as a precaution) after the op and my surgon and anaesthesist were a bit worried (hence me to!!) as I am also a diabetic and had to have open surgery rather than laproscopy. The hospital was like a fivestar hotel but unfortunately I ended up with a staph infection that I am dealing with now.

You sound very disciplined with your meals. As a diabetic I have to eat several times a day to keep my sugars OK.

Regards

K

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
