What are your triggers to cheat?

Recommended Posts

You know when you get that feeling to just give in and have something you know your not supposed to have, what do you think triggers it?

My triggers...

1. Long drives (almost always had McDonalds in the past)

2. Sitting on the couch watching TV (major snack time)

3. Going out to dinner with people who don't know I'm dieting

4. Quick/rushed lunch breaks at work

5. food sitting out buffet style (like at a party or tailgate or sitting out at work)

What are yours? Any tips?

Lets see....any time we get a night off from the kids, we tend to want to go out to eat, its almost like a celebratory freedom for the night thing, I always want to get something bad!

Right before my period, its a bad week, I always crave the worst things.

I work at a country club, our members bring in lots of goodies, especially around the holidays, this year I am just going to have to hand it all straight over to my assistant.

Buffets of any kind, I avoid them like the plague now.

Movies, we used to always et Snacks like junior mints, hot tamales, popcorn....now I smuggle in apples and Kashi Cereal bars, just not the same though!

I could go on and on....

I agree with you on all of your trigger's, but the one that angers me is TV. I can't stand when I'm doing fine (minding my own business) and along comes a pizza commercial. It starts something in me that brings out the most insane cravings. Sometimes for a couple days I think pizza. In case you didn't notice I love pizza so I used that example, but their are tons of these food commercials that do this to me. I'm on the pre op diet right now and I have to turn the channel, or mute and look away. It is frustrating though as it is already planted in my mind. I swear I never seen a whopper from Burger King look as pretty as it does in a commercial. Little things like that can really make it hard. I never noticed it until I stopped eating what I want.

Triggers...hmm lets see, everything. I always want to eat but because it tastes good and I enjoy it so, I never seem to get that full feeling either....so I eat way too much portion wise. Night is very hard after our son is asleep (around 7pm) we love to snack on candy. Those days are over for sure but nights are still the worse.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
