Earlier this week I posted my Into in that forum. I received such wonderful support - now I'm ready to move on to the Pre-Op forum! Just as an FYI, I am pre-op with no date of surgery yet. I have had two dates scheduled but had to cancel because of conflicts.

There was a point this past week that I admitted I was afraid. I don't want to fail. (Maybe that's why those conflicts with life and work came up.) Now I can honestly say - I'm no longer fearful of failing. Don't get me wrong, I have a healthy respect for that possibility, but I am more sure right now than I have ever been that this is the right thing to do. I have already gotten great support from this this board and I am sure that support will continue. I've made a "friend" who is local and has had the surgery - somewhat of a "mentor," I guess.

I'm trying to get myself ready in more ways than one. For example, my husband and I just got home from the grocery store. Mind you, I don't have a surgery date yet and have not been put onto any pre-op diet. But, I decided that it would be better for me to go ahead and start preparing foods the "right" way and add some needed things into my diet now so that post-op, I will already have some "tried" recipes. I bought some flounder - that will not be fried, thank you - and some non-fat dry milk to try to start adding some Protein. (I'm going to try that before buying the whey Protein powders.) Yesterday, I was out of town with a coworker and before we started on the return trip, she wanted a smoothie. Good idea, I thought. Now I'm kicking myself because I didn't take that opportunity to add the Protein powder to my smoothie.< /p>

These are just small steps, but I am SO excited now. I'm ready. I WILL be successful!

Have a blessed weekend!

Lisa

Sounds like you are the right path! I think you have to go into with a positive attitude for it to work. If your husband is supportive that really is an added plus.

Good job. Now continue with the "life" adjustments. Try eating smaller portions from smaller plates. If there is anything you consume a lot of that really isn't that good for you, give it up now. My thing was about a gallon of really sweet tea everyday. Giving that up I lost 3lbs. in 1 week. Protein will be important, and there are many ways to get it, so don't worry about that to much now. Learn to drink Water. I was told I need 64 oz. of fluids daily, that takes major adjustment if you don't drink alot. Give up the soda (pop), and work on taking smaller bites, and chew, chew, CHEW!!!

We are waiting on the loser bench for YOU!

Congratulations on making positive steps to make your transition easier. It sounds like you are off to a great start. You may want to start trying to cut out drinking with meals. It seems that many bandsters have a problem with that at first. Good luck with getting your date!

Thanks all for the words of encouragement. I took another step today - I called the surgeon's office and told them the date I would like to schedule if possible. They're going to confirm that date and get back with me. But, it's a step in the right direction. I've already got my transportation schedule!

Next step - support group meetings, which I haven't started attending yet.

Great tips on starting to eat the smaller meals and give up those "to die for" foods. Mine will be my Diet Dr. Pepper. But, it will all be worth it.

I'm so excited!!!:smile2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
