Do you think I need a little un-fill?

Recommended Posts

OK peeps here is the sitch. Surgery was 7/29/09 I had my 1st fill almost exactly 4 weeks later. I have a 14cc band and he gave me 5cc...nothin. I was still eating way too much and I knew it. I went back 2 weeks later and Doc gave me 3cc more. Still nothin... well maybe I was full a little sooner but ANYTHING went down with out a problem. So this last Tues I went in for yet another fill. He gave me 1cc more. Now I can barely get anything down! Such a shock! Did liquids the first day and even got a little parched and drank too much at one time because after I took like 3 big drinks I had to throw that up! So second day I move on to mushies and I am really concentrating on chew, chew chewing (scrambled egg) and the first swallow I feel like a rock in my chest! Since then I have had very little food at all. Do you think I need to give it a few more days in case my tummy is swollen or does it sound like I need an un-fill? I appreciate your help!

Lisa~

you might need an unfil hun.. sounds like your doc is pretty agressive with those fills. try liquids for another day and see if your tummy settles but if you cant keep liquids down its time to go back in.. Dont want to risk becoming dehydrated..

If your doc is closed for the weekend, see them today for a little unfill. You can always get it back when you need it, but 3 days is long enough. Best wishes,

Mimi

You had some very aggressive fills very fast, that's for sure. If you're able to get all your liquids down, you could try seeing how it goes, but you shouldn't be moving on to soft foods when you can barely get down a drink.

Some banders have problems with eggs too, so that might not be your best bet for a soft food at the moment. When you feel comfortable moving on to a soft food, something like yogurt might be a better bet.

Mimilou brought up a good point, with this being Friday, if you're still having trouble with liquids, you should call the office this morning. Better to go in when they can get you in and out quickly, rather than the weekend when it might be an emergency call to the doctor.

Try warm liquids and see if they help. Also, you can try to chew up a couple of Motrin children's chewables (2-3) and see if that helps with the inflammation. For soft foods, cottage cheese, yogurt...things like that. Concentrate on eating very slowly (1 minute or 2 between small bites), and see if that helps.

Some people get tighter a few weeks after a fill...not right away. Others are tight during certain times of the month, and for some, it's just fickle with no known reason why they are tight. Try a few of the things above, and remember to not gulp liquids, sip. I can only take about 3 small sips/gulps of liquid at a time, and the best is room temperature. Not that I like it that way, it's just the best way to get liquids down for me.

If that doesn't work, you need to get a slight unfill. Sounds like you are very close to your sweet spot and could have just a titch too much. A few drops make a world of difference.

Good luck!

I would definitely take mimi's advice and call right now for an unfill. It is possible that he can just take out .5cc but if you wait, you may need a lot more out. You want your stomach to lose the swelling as quickly as possible. Also, be certain to do liquids only for a few days until you KNOW the swelling is reduced. You don't want any more episodes of pbing. Good luck and keep us updated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
