This might be a weird one, but I'm looking for some advice. After my fill this week I was restricted to liquids for a few days.

I was meeting a large group of people at a coffee shop and brought a Protein drink. The waitress informed me I could not have an outside beverage in the shop.

Now, my plan was to ask for some ice, have a coffee after my Protein Drink, and tip very well. I've been a waitress -- I know what it's like.

I was so taken aback and annoyed I ended up ordering a "smoothie" which had calories but minimal Protein. And I left her a very small tip.

And then later gave her what for.

Any similar experiences? How should I have handled it? I generally don't like to be b*tchy or mean, but boy did she piss me off.

OK, I'll admit I'm pretty cranky when restricted to liquids.< /p>

I usually just explained that I just had weight loss surgery and have dietary restrictions. I show them my medic alert and my card stating that I have a small pouch and to please allow me to eat off of the childrens menu. I havent had any problems at all. Every place I have been to either allows me to order from the childrens menu or buffets charge me a childs rate. In case you dont have one of these cards, here is a link. Scroll down and you will see where to click. Choose which one you want and print it out. See if that helps those crabby people!!!

My husband and I eat out fairly often and have not had a problem, I generally just say I have had surgery and cant eat much. A lot of the time I order an empty plate and fork, then will have a small amount of my husbands order. Generally he cant eat all his dinner anyway and he says now I am a cheap date!

I take a take away container & small cooler bag in my handbag. If I can't finish it, I take it with me. In Australia, they had a bit of a thing about 'doggy bags' cause some oldies would get sick cause they'd leave it unrefridgerated for too long or not reheat it enough or leave it too long to have it. Places didn't want to get sued. But now I find, most don't give a sh*t, and are happy that you liked it enough that you don't want to waste it. If the place you're goin too has nothing acceptable for you, just have a Water & stuff em! It's not like you're gonna starve. I've got a heap of stuff on this issue on my blog if you're interested. 7 yrs has given me plenty of time to sort out some solutions. Remember, you're the customer, you come first & shouldn't have to bow down/fit in or conform to anyone elses rules about your body! All the best.

When I am on liquids (right after surgery, right after a fill, after a bad PB) I usually order Soup of some sort - and ask for mainly the broth. I realize that probably isn't an option in a coffee shop. I loved coffee shops while on liquids because I could treat myself to a Decaf skinny vanilla latte (sometimes extra Protein added) and I still felt I "fit in" with the others. It didn't compromise my calories or my protein. I guess if I felt I needed more protein than what that supplied I would have had it later after leaving the coffee shop as most places do frown on people bringing in their own food or drink.

Fortunately that doesn't happen often and most wait-people have more brains. If you were just there chatting and didn't order anything would they have asked you to leave? I would have probably just drank it anyway ignoring here. What are they going to do call the cops?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
