had surgery yesterday

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery and could not hae gone better. I remember going into the ER getting strapped down. and then I was out. Woke up about an hour later in recovery and was to my room. Within about 1 hour I was walking. Before the end of the evening I had walked close to 3 miles. Before i walked I had gas pains that were uncomfortable. Wehn I walked I felt better. By the end of the evening they were gone. I am more sore today than I was yesterday. The key is to walk, walk and walk some more. Trust me, it makes the gas dissipate faster. I had Clear liquids yesterday and I am on Full liquids for 1 week , mushies for 2 more then regular food. The only complication from the surgery is my sight for things that are close up. Everything is very blurry. My doc and nurse couldn't figure it out. I apoke to the anethstiest and she said the trans-dermal patch behind my ear and that is a side efffect. The patch will be off on saturday and it should resolve within 12 hours. For any of those scared to go through it then I would say go for it. It was easier than I every thought . Again the key is to walk as much as you can. When you are done. Rest 10 minutes and walk some more.

Hi Greg

Congrats! And thank's for the positive post. I have my surgery in one week today, and am really starting to "freak-out" I just started my liquid diet, and am extremely excited to get banded. Kinda wish it was done already. Thanks for the tips about walking. I have heard many people say to walk, but it's good to hear again that it really does help. I hope to be walking within a half hour of getting out of surgery - I guess I'll see how it goes (I'm getting the SILS procedure, so the pain should be less for walking, but more for shoulder pains).

Best wishes ~

I had the 5 port and there is no pain other than my port area is a bit sore. I have heard about SILS but know vey little about it. I started walking shorly afterwards. Your throat will probably be sore. I was sucking down quite a few sugarless popcicles. You will probably have a sore throat and very very dry mouth. They then gave me ice chips and Water an hour later. Also you typically need to peeing within 10 hours it is tough because everything is swollem. I got within an hour of having to get a cathater and that is all I needed to hear and I couldn't stop. Good luck

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
