TeganRheana 1 Posted September 25, 2009 my mum also had the lap-band put in a week after me. Wednesday night I get a call from my sister (they live 3hrs away) saying that mum had "muscle pains" in her chest and between her shoulder blades and was being sent to the emergency room. They did a CT scan but couldn't see what was wrong so they transferred her to the hospital that she had her surgery at. Her surgeon has decided to send her back into surgery today to see what is going on but they suspect a slipped band. Is it possible to just re-adjust the band or replace it or do the band have to be taken out when it has slipped?? I am really really worried about her and her health is my first and foremost concern - if they have to take it out then so be it, but she is hoping that they will be able to leave it in and just adjust it. Neither of us have any idea what's going on and I live so far away, I can't just dragged my littlies and leave. (However I will be going to see her on Monday). Anyone had or know of someone who's had a band slip?? What did they do?? Did it get fixed or did it have to be taken out?
bambam 0 Posted September 25, 2009 Sorry to hear your mom is having problems. I hope things go smoothly for her. My sister-in-law's band slipped after 7 months and when they took her to surgery they removed the old band and port and placed all new. Her recovery was great and she is doing well again. Keep us updated on how she does. That has to be a worry for you!
ParrotheadCathy 0 Posted September 25, 2009 My understanding is that a slipped band can be seen under fluroscope or possibly xray. From the people I've read their comments on it if it happened to them, the first line of treatment is not removal, but a couple of weeks of liquid diet to see if it slips back into place on its own. My doctor said he stitches the band in place so that it won't slip, which if your mom has had a slip and has surgery, she might ask if that can be done. TeganRheana 1 Posted September 26, 2009 Heya thanks for your comments , mum went into surgery last night and unfortunately they had to remove the band. She is very upset and feeling like a failure now as they have said they won't be able to put another one in because the whole area was infected. I am upset for her but so glad it was found when it was. Thanks again for your support.

elcee 3,342 Posted September 26, 2009 Sorry to hear this she must be so upset. Any idea what happened. It sounds more like an erosion or other problem rather than a slip. Did she have signs and symptoms prior to this or were the chest pains the other day the first indication that anything was wrong. Wishing her all the best for a speedy recovery. TeganRheana 1 Posted September 27, 2009 Hi girls...we are being very supportive of her, we feel as though it's going to be easier for her to keep on track this time as she has had 4 months with the band in (she knows portion sizes now) and because I am still banded, I am going to help her along aswell...she is in a lot better spirits today which is good to see! :tongue2: I am just glad she is feeling better! Her band didn't slip. It was infected. They think partly due to her body rejecting it, but it became inflamed etc due to her vomiting since her last fill. She had her last fill about 2.5weeks ago (upto 6mls total) and she was having trouble eating anything, constantly pb'ing and sliming. I told her she should get some taken out, but her, being her though she was ok and she was getting used to it. Unfortunately though the last straw came when she tried to eat a piece of bread and then she started vomiting continuously (weds night when she was sent to the emergency). The surgeon has said that it would have taken a while for it to become as infected as it was, so for her not to blame herself. The band isn't meant for everyone, but she still doesn't regret getting it and is still super supportive of me aswell ..so this was just a setback, but she and I will get there!! Thanks again for all your kind words, the last few days have been very stressful...it's hard to know u'r mum is in hospital and you just can't get there . Going tomorrow to finally see her!!!
