JennGA 0 Posted September 24, 2009 I knew this would happen, that's why I waited to check with my insurance to see if I'm covered. NOPE what else is new. I'm sad today & now a little depressed. This totally sucks. Sorry just wanted to vent. I haven't given up yet. Jenn
LISAMARIE1158 0 Posted September 24, 2009 when can you change insurance plans?
Sistabigbones 0 Posted September 24, 2009 It really is not a matter of "insurance companies". It is a matter of what your employer choses to pay for. Blue Cross does not exclude weight loss surgery, your employer excludes weight loss surgery. If your employer was to change insurance companies tomorrow, they still may not cover weight loss surgery. I would go talk to your Human Resources dept and see if there is anything they can suggest to you. But this is really not Blue Cross's fault. I too have Blue Cross of GA and weight loss surgery is covered for me because my employer who just happens to be Blue Cross allows weight loss surgery..I wish you the best of luck in your journey!! ParrotheadCathy 0 Posted September 24, 2009 Sadly, if there is a written exclusion for weight loss surgery, there is no avenue of appeal for you. I know that I read on here where someone actually appealed to the insurance commissioner of their state and was told there was nothing they could do to counter a written exclusion. My policy has a written exclusion so I went the self-pay route.
