starting diet/still waiting on psych report

Recommended Posts

I'm starting 2 week pre-op diet today--700 calorie--40 gr carbs. Not looking forward to headaches and fatigue b/cause I also have to exercise 30 minutes a day! (I'm in physical therapy from a knee injury and HAVE to go at least 3x's a week so i cant cheat on working out)

That being said, I"m STILL waiting on psych dr. As posted b4, he lost my initial papers & after 3 weeks finally admitted it.I had to take the test over.No biggie really. I went to my multi-dr appts Tuesday & his office said I had no appt sched. w/him. It was written on my paper so they worked me in but it was NOT on his schedule books. He told me he'd get the report to my surgeons office by 5pm Tuesday.

As of today, still NO REPORT from psch dr!! The person who submits this to my ins. for approval is leaving for vacation today, so if the report isnt in it wont be submitted for another week, then I do the Aetna waiting game. VERY frustrated w/psych dr for these delays but hopeful this all works out. Surgery is scheduled Oct 8th......trying to stay positive it will happen.

wow, I can't believe someone else is in the same situation as me. I had got my own psychologist do my evaluation two weeks ago, and when I saw here on Wednesday, she told me that she wouldn't be able to get it done for at least another week. But, my surgery is set for October 1st. So, I got really frustrated. The surgery clinic called today asking for payment, but I don't want to pay until I get my eval done. So, after a lot of anxiety and frustration, I was able to speak with my counselor and convinced her to get it done by Monday. I'll pay tomorrow, get the eval submitted on Monday, and surgery on Thursday. Which means that I start my pre-op diet RIGHT NOW!. As of this second, I am now on my pre-op diet. OMG! So excited! :-D Good luck with getting all of your paperwork organized! And best wishes on your pre-op and the op itself.

the waiting is nerve wracking. Esp. when the psych dr "promised" he'd get that report in by 5 on Tuesday.

Well, I got my GREAT news today! The gal who submits papers to ins. knew how important this was to me. The psych dr didnt get the report in until THURSDAY :). Even though this gal who does ins. submitting is on vacation, she faxed my papers to ins.......and I got my APPROVAL!!!! :scared2:

Good luck to you as well !

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
