Need advise about date (daughter's wedding)

Recommended Posts

Here are the details. My surgeons only operate on Tuesdays. The 29th of September is out. If I were to have the surgery on October 6th, how would I feel on October 24th at my daughters wedding? I do not care about what I can or cannot eat. I just want to be able to dance with my husband (her father).

All comments or suggestions are helpful and much appreciated.

FYI: I have a "back up" date planned for November 3rd, but I'd rather not wait that long.

hi sdpressi

i was ok in 3 weeks and back to exercising ....but surgery is really an individual thing....some people bounce right back...others take a little longer.

the band surgery, since it is laproscopic, seems to be easier to recover.

why dont you ask your doctor too? he may be able to give good insight.

good luck in whatever you decide.

I would have been alright, but like the other poster mentioned it is all individual. I have had over half dozen other surgeries before this, so it was nothing new. Whereas a friend of mine, this was her first surgery and she thought it was the end of the world. So you need to think about how easily you recover if you've had surgery in the past, or what your general level of pain tolerance is. Another thing to consider is your doctors post-op diet. When I was on liquids only, I had such a low level of energy because I wasn't getting in many calories. My doctor would allow soft foods by the time you'd be going to your wedding, so check with your doctor and see what he thinks about everything. Overall though I think you will be fine. To play it safe you could chose Nov 3 - I know it seems like such a long time out, but really it's not.

Hi

While the recovery is not that bad, I would suggest waiting until after the wedding, Not being able to fully enjoy that day isn't worth the chance. Plus there will be things before the wedding you will want to help with that you may not feel up to if you are in the middle of recovering.

Good Luck

That's my gut feeling too. I also recovered quickly from surgery, and if this was a best friend's wedding, I'd be more comfortable saying it's a small risk that you won't be up to going to the wedding. But, this being your daughter's wedding, well, that's just too important of a day to leave up to chance for a surgery you can postpone for a few more weeks. I hate to say that, because I know I was very excited to get my surgery done once I decided to do it, and it's a relatively easy recovery for many if not most. Although I'm generally an optimist, I would hold off.

Thank you all for your responses. I had gallbladder surgery 3 years ago. I went to work (office) for an hour the next day (Friday) and was back at work full-time on Monday. I recovered very well. I believe I would be fine, but I am going to take y'alls advise and wait till November. My daughters wedding is a big to-do, so I will need all my strenght.

Thanks so much, again.

I was down for a TOTAL of three days (including the day of surgery. With nearly 3 weeks between surgery and the wedding, you should be fine. My only question would be what demands will be on you in that time frame related to finalizing details for the wedding?? You don't want to have a high demand on you right after surgery in case you don't bounce back quite as quickly as I did.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
