Less restriction AFTER first fill???

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on August 8. I definitely had restriction aftewards, and had episodes of feeling "stuck" and even one episode of "sliming". I went to Ireland on vacation, so my first fill did not happen until September 18. Since then, I feel NO restriction at all, and can eat all I want. Its totally weird... Has anyone had this problem? I am thinking of calling the doctor and asking for another fill even though its only been a week..

You might be losing fat off your stomach, or maybe you had residual swelling from the surgery and subsequent stuck episodes, it's really hard to tell why you feel less restriction now than you did previously. Maybe your body is just adjusting to the band. It never hurts to call your doctor, but I know some people have reported not getting the full effect of their fill until two weeks have passed. I did have one or two fills at two week intervals when I was feeling very little restriction.

Thanks for answering... I did call the doctor and he was worried I had a leak so he saw me right away .. No leak, thank goodness and he added another cc. Still don't feel much restriction but there does seem to be more there then there was. I have a large band which I assume holds 14 cc and I am currently at 6.6 cc fill.

That's very good news, Effielin. I was worried many times that my band had a leak because I didn't feel the kind of restriction other people were talking about. My doctor kept assuring me that I didn't have a leak, and he'd get me to where I needed to be, but I still worried (lol). I have a 9cc band, and I had to end up getting more than 9cc of saline to finally get me to my sweet spot.

I felt fairly good restriction after I was first banded. I got my first fill 4 weeks later, and BAM!, no restriction. It took until my fifth fill to feel any kind of restriction again. My doc chalked up the initial restriction to post-op swelling.

Hi Kiz. How many months after surgery did it take before you got to your sweet spot?

Hi Kiz. How many months after surgery did it take before you got to your sweet spot?

I felt restriction along the way after almost every fill, but it was fleeting. It was when I got my last fill at about 10 months that I knew it was the "one". The other fills gave me restriction for a few weeks but then the feeling of satiety after meals started to diminish, but this time it took. It's been a little over two months now, and it feels the restriction feels the same today as it did two months ago. It's also a stronger feeling of staying satisfied between meals then I ever had prior to this past fill.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
