Some ??? for the experienced:

Recommended Posts

I'm still on liquids, but have been wondering if I'll be able to eat the following foods once healed (these are NOT foods I'll eat often, but I really don't want a surprise at a social function):

multi-grain tortilla chips

steak (any specific kind? I'm a porterhouse girl)

pork

spicy foods (ie jalopenos)

peppers

rice

I'd just like to hear how others have fared with these items.

Thanks!

Kat

hi katy,

food tolerance is very individual.

i have seen people post that they cant tolerate any rice. it is the one food i can always tolerate.

before being banded.... i assumed i would be able to eat chicken and eggs and NOT be able to eat steak.

the opposite happened....

i have had the worst PB's on both chicken and eggs. i have been able to eat steak from day 1. i normally eat filet/tenderloin on the rarer side.

you may have to test various foods......sometimes i cant eat something in the morning but can at night.

i find crunchy easier to eat then a bread for example.

right now i am totally unfilled so i can eat anything....

good luck with your journey

josie

Unfortunately, for me, what I can and can't eat varies often from day to day! One day I may be able to eat chips, the next day...not a chance!! I am very tight right now, and quite honestly at social functions I am super careful...sometimes not eating at all--I'll eat before instead.

Good luck!!

I am not sure about the steak as I am a prime rib medium rare eater which is really tender. I have no problem eating any of the things on your list. It really a question of how it is prepared.

I've been banded a year and at my sweet spot, and I can eat all those foods.

(Occasionally rice seems expand before it goes through my band. I don't generally eat much rice anyway, because I'm only supposed to eat 1/2 cup meals, but I can eat it if I want to.)

I can eat all of those things but some people have a problem with rice. As far as the chips go, just consider that they really are "slider" foods and are something you would do better without so really eat them only occassionally and call them a big treat!

Steak, pork ....ANY dry meat can pose a problem. I eat my steak rare to medium rare, marinate it often and as long as I chew it well, which is pretty important for anything you eat. I often cook my pork tenderloin as a roast either marinated with Italian dressing or in some chicken broth to keep it moist.

Spicy foods....gawd, I would die if I couldn't eat hot peppers. I can my own sliced jalapenos because I eat so darned many of them! Grow them, can them, eat them, LOL. I cook with other peppers but don't usually eat peppers raw, which is a personal preferance rather than a necessity.

I will say that the Band is not meant to deprive you or make you suffer. All things in moderation. Go for whole grain when you can. For instance, I usually eat long grain wild rice rather than white rice.

More questions you think I can answer, just let me know!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
