Guest pdbeth Posted October 6, 2005 My husband was just banded on Monday (10/3/05). He did pretty good the 1st 2 days after surgery, but yesterday evening he started having dry heaves. He's not throwing anything up, sometimes a little phlem, but nothing else. He's constantly nauseous and he'll sleep for 2 or 3 hours but then wakes up dry heaving again. He's using phenergran gel for nausea, but its not helping at all. Anybody have any suggestions?
Bensmum1109 0 Posted October 6, 2005 Ask the doctor to prescribe Reglan. I was horribly nauseous and by taking one of these pills every 6 hours, it helped tremendously.
donali 57 Posted October 6, 2005 He needs to contact his doctor ASAP, and let him/her know that the phenergen isn't working. Now is the critical time to keep the stomach as still as possible. Does he have the suppository type of phenergen, or the oral tablet? A week after my surgery I felt extremely nauseous for two days, but never actually threw up or had dry heaves, thank goodness. I can only imagine how much pain this must be causing him. Call his doctor right away!
Guest pdbeth Posted October 6, 2005 He's taking phenergran gel that you apply to your wrists. We did call the nurse at our surgeon's office this morning. She said if he doesn't get any better to come to the doctor's office this afternoon for IV fluids and meds. In the meantime, she said to take guaifisen for sinus drainage and to drink warm liquids and to make sure he got down some Isopure Protein.< /p>

leatha_g 4 Posted October 6, 2005 most importantly, have him sipping continuously. maybe some warm Water with lemon juice would cut the phlegm?
Frank 2 Posted October 6, 2005 My wife was very sick the first week. She said warm drinks was the only thing that help.
I'llsucceed 1 Posted October 7, 2005 Gosh I hope you called your Doctos & he is feeling better now. I would drink - or sip very very warm Water with a squirt of lemmon in it. It really helped alot when I was ill & dry heaving. A very tiny sip at a time & not too much.
