Has anyone tried the Tofu Shirataki noodles?

Recommended Posts

I have a Hungry Girl cookbook and saw that they use these noodles quite often in recipes. I have a recipe that I'm going to try this week, but was just wondering what people thought of these "noodles". I haven't ever tried Pasta since being banded, and since these were made from Tofu, I fugured I'd be safe. Has anyone tried them? Like them? Dislike them? Thanks!

I have not had these since I've been banded. I tried them a couple of years ago. They were hard to find. They're in with the refrigerated Asian foods. Anyway, you have to rinse them really well or there can be a fishy smell. They're precooked, so you just need to heat them up. They have a slippery texture, like overcooked Pasta. Seems like they'd be easier to eat than regular Pasta. Personally, they didn't agree with my digestive system, so I only had them twice before giving up. I know other people, especially Weight Watchers, have sworn by them, but I don't know of anyone who has been banded who's had them. Perhaps someone else who's had them after banding can chime in.

Good luck!

I havent been banded yet (10.22.09) yay! but i used to eat them all the time! The key is rinse rinse rinse! AND DONT SMELL THEM! They smell really gross, but they taste great. I cut them up because their really long, but I liked them a lot.

Thanks for the replies. I just tried them the night after I made this post. I really liked them alot and didn't have any problems with them and my band. I did rinse them well and boil them for a few minutes to get the excess out. They were quite good!

I agree with everyone, rinse them under cold Water as much as you can! They're OK, but personally I didn't find them very filling or appetizing after a few times.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
