Reporters, training and being stuck

Recommended Posts

Today must have been my most awful day so far.

I work as a first aid trainer.

The day started off fairly normally except when I got to work one of my students advised me that she has epilepsy and has some type of seizure on a daily basis. Yes I know how to handle seizures but the thought of having to deal with one and a class full of students had me a little concerned.

I had also been told to expect a reporter from the local press at 11am. Reporters with big camera's taking pics whilst I work are not my favourite people.

Also when I am teaching I find it difficult to remember/get the chance to drink enough due to set break times. So when working I am probably a little dehydrated.

All of this was probably a recipe for disaster.

11am came and went, no reporter. We broke for lunch at 11.45.I had a cup of Soup and waited about 20min before having some left over corned beef from last night. It was very moist and soft and I had no problems with it yesterday. I was busy eating when I looked up and saw a group of people with camera's standing outside the office door. I got a huge fright and the mouthful that I was eating probably didn't get chewed as well as it should have.

One of the reporters then proceeded to interview me. I was not expecting this as they had been given a press release. I could feel the food was stuck and whilst I was talking strange gurgling noises were coming from my throat! I excused myself, went to the bathroom and slimed. Got back to interview ASAP.After the interview finished I had to stand there and have multipe photo's taken. Still feeling awful! The expression on my face was more of a grimace than a smile.

Thankfully they left so I could run and slime some more! However this had taken so long it was now time to start teaching again.

Tried very hard to carry on as normal but it wasn't working. Had to dissappear every 5 - 10 minutes to slime some more. Goodness knows what the class thought although I sort of alluded to indigestion due to getting a fright and being disturbed whilst eating. This carried on for 2 hours until afternoon break time. I had tried chewing Papaya and it hadn't worked.Had a couple of mouthfulls of warm tea which came back up but it didn't solve the problem. Eventually had to stick my finger down my throat - instant relief!

Not a day I want to repeat in a hurry.

Also from now on I am going to have to make sure I stick to soft foods at work.
