My port's on the right

Recommended Posts

My port is on the right. anyone else?

I had a right mastectomy with a Tram flap where they use the right stomach muscle to rebuild the breast so I guess he had more room on the right side. But I can fell it and see it through my skin.

Banded on Friday, still having some pain, enough for the tylenol with codeine every 4-6 hours.

Took MOM to help pass gas and it really made the pressure feel so much better.

I just wish I could do something about the pain in my left shoulder. I am assuming it is a gas bubble, but OUCH!

Mine's on the right too. No specific reason. I think it's dr. preference.

Oh--my gas pain was REALLY bad in my left shoulder. It's completely normal. I used gas-x strips. I think it was gone in about 4 days or so for me!

And...I was 254 at surgery and I couldn't see my port at all before. Now that I'm 210, I can't really see it at all, but I can definitely feel it. My dr. said he would give me a "gucci" port if I got "all skinny".

lol@ Gucci port!

My doctor told me she put it on my left in case I ever had to self adjust. The strange thing is now when i stretch I see it and when people touch the area they freak out. lol

pain in left shoulder is referred pain from the diaphragm, which presses on the phrenic nerve. It's not gas. Pain meds, massage, heating pad, changing position (lying on side, holding arm up over head) all seem to help some people (DH rubbing my neck and shoulders did it for me)

It will get better over time as your internal organs settle back down again!

I also had really bad pain in my shoulder area. I think it took abut 2 weeks for it to pass.

I had a tram flap on the left and so is my port! I didn't have any shoulder pain, but the gas was manic! It woke me the first two nights I was home. From a dead sleep it just hit and I almost hit the ceiling. I had to get up and walk through the house to get it to ease up. I am about 6 months out and the gas and rumbling is still present. I recently started taking Aloe Vera & B6, these seem to help a lot. I have had a port before (chemo) and I couldn't see it, this one shows when I lie down. Small price for the 50+ pounds that are gone.

My port is also on the right. I think that is just how my doc does it. If it weren't for the fact that the scar near my port is larger than the other 4 incision scars, I would not even know where it was located.

I already have a large scar on my right from gall bladder surgery back in the 80's and then they reopened it about 5 yrs ago because of an insicional hernia. I'm not sure where my port will be but I will find out tomorrow. Did any of you have to have drainage tubes left in after the surgery?

I'm not going to say 100% you WONT have a drainage tube because surgeons are an odd breed, but you don't really have any need for one, for this surgery. I didn't have one and most that I've ever read about/heard of don't.

If you had your gall bladder the "old way", not laparoscopic, that would explain the drainage tube. The new Lap way, there's no need for one. Much better, huh?

You'll be amazed.

yes, I had my gall bladder surgery the old way with the drainage tubes. Had my tubes tied the lap way.

I am curious to see where he puts my port since I had a hernia on that side there is mesh there.

Docs don 't HAVE to put it any one place so I'm sure he'll find a good spot for it!

My port is on my right as well. Everyone else I know has theirs on their left. I thought I was just a weirdo :bored:

Now that I have lost forty, I can see mine and feel it. Strange strange!

My port is also closer to the right. I can still feel it, but it doesn't stick out as much as before. It's so weird, I remember being so obsessed with it the first couple of months because it just felt so weird! Now it's just another part of me, I suppose! ;0

The shoulder pain was the worst for me, but it goes away soon! Hang in there! Keep up the good work.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
