Snacks/groceries

Recommended Posts

So I'm sure there is a thread like this already, but I can't find it, and I always like fresh ideas. Here's the situation...

I need to go buy food, mainly for Breakfast and snacking while not spending too much. I try to stick to the low-carb/low-sugar formula because that worked for me when I was really losing earlier in the year. Also, please remember I am on a STRICT BUDGET, so wallet friendly suggestions are key...

I really like string cheese for a snack. I also like nuts, especially almonds and peanuts. I'm pretty tight in the mornings, but sometimes have yogurt for Breakfast, which works as a snack too.

You can buy big bags of nuts (my favorites are pistachios) from costco. Nuts aren't cheap in general, but the costco ones are waaaay cheaper, ounce for ounce, than other places. And they last long and are filling, with low-carbs and Protein and such.

I also have the Archer Farms Protein breakfast Cereal. I can pack a 1-cup serving of that and eat it dry for breakfast. A box of that Cereal isn't as cheap as some of the other ones, but it's pretty healthy and organic and has 9g of protein per serving so it's not expensive compared to other things.

eggs are pretty reasonable. I used to make egg recipes in a muffin tin and then freeze individual ones so I could grab them and just heat them in the microwave at work and eat them.

Just some ideas....

I keep a box of the Chewy Peanut Butter/Chocolate Chip bars in my classroom for Snacks. There are 10 in a box and it costs about 2.50. You can get them with added Protein (only 5g:sad:) and it is about 100 calories each.

Thanks ladies... but I forgot to mention I'm allergic to nuts, melons, apples, carrots, and celery :blushing:

I eat so little now that I don't worry quite as much about the cost of different foods than I used to...I figure I get a lot more servings out of them then the average person, but I'm always looking for a deal LOL.

When I'm tight I always have some greek yogurt in the fridge (Oikos is lower cost than others I've found) and way higher in Protein than other yogurt. I bought some inexpensive SF preserves (at Wal-Mart) and I'll put a little ontop, or sprinkle some high Fiber Cereal like Kashi go lean ontop (or even fruit). I also always have low fat cottage cheese in the fridge and you can put some lite or fresh fruit ontop.

If you're not allergic to soy-then try some roasted edamame (they sell them at costco in big containers). I can't eat a lot as they aren't the best tasting things to me (not awful, but not as good as nuts), but really high Protein and it satisfies me when I need a snack that's crunchy. I love berries for a snack...even frozen...pop in some frozen blueberries...yummm. I also like cheese (I want to try the laughing cow ones).

When I really need a sweet snack I love the Russell Stover bags of SF chocolates and they have them now in dark chocolate...all kinds of insides; Peanut Butter, carmel, truffle, toffee, etc. I never have more than one a day though. I get them at Target.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
