Ok I got banded 3 days ago and am having no problems getting enouph Protein and fluids in. Im wondering if I am drinking to fast. I can have cream Soup and I add milk and powdered milk to it to add extra protein to it. I can down a cup of that in like 15 min. Is that to fast? I can sip on a cup of Water in 15 min. Is that too fast? . It doesnt feel funny in my stomach. Am I at risk for stretching the pouch?I feel really good

Not everyone feels miserable post op. The new, sized bands, individual reaction to the bands (ie how badly you do or don't swell), your surgeon's skill, your mental attitude, whether your surgeon fills you during surgery or not, MANY different things all contribute to a patient's post op status.

And until you are VERY restricted liquids should flow through easily. So relax, follow your docs advice, and you'll do fine! Don't add in extra Proteins etc unless he's told you to do so.

I need to get between 30or more grams of Protein in the first 2 weeks and 60-90 grams after that. the nutritionist said to use double milk( Thats what she calls it) or my carnation(YUK) or Unjury. So its been very easy to get in the protein.

Perfect! Then you know what you're supposed to do and you are doing it! :blushing:

Don't fret that you aren't miserable! You're just one of the lucky ones. In fact, most (not all, but most) don't struggle post op getting fluids in now that they have a variety of band sizes to choose from. Just relax, heal, and plan your new wardrobe!

That is good to know, because I have been struggling to get mine in, both Water and protein. I just feel full all the time, and I guess I am also scared to throw up like I have heard other people do---so it's probably more mental than anything. I had mine on Monday, so the swelling should be going down, I am trying everyday to get more and more water down...not doing as well with my Protein shakes, but I am working on that too. :blushing:

I had the same perfect experience as you. I never had purping, vomiting, gas, NOTHING! I know I am very, very lucky. I did 1 week of liquids followed by mushys.

I am 7 weeks post op, have had 2 fills, good restriction and I follow the rules but there have been no foods that I can't eat. As a rule, I do not eat bread. By the time I eat my Protein, I am too full anyway.

I don't know whether it's because of my doctor or what but I am NOT complaining.

Hoping you continue to have a great experience too...

Im still doing good but when I burp after I eat or drink its just a little painful (can this hurt the band?) and im starting to get hungry all the time. Im not over eating Im just not sure if Im eating and drinking to fast. I try to go slow. Also I have 7 cuts and they are all healing great but my port is more sore and a little bit bulging but no redness or anything is this the norm?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
