Heparin Shots make me itch??

Recommended Posts

My surgeon requires that I give 3 heparin injectionas a day for 3 weeks after surgery. If anyone else is doing this, could you tell me if it makes your stomach (where the injections are given) itch. It drives me crazy...Thank you!:(

as a nurse, i can say, they sting, but shouldnt itch, is the skin hot, or reddened or just bruised after them?

are you pinching up enough fat before you jab yourself?

Thanks for the reply. I think there is plenty of fat, they don't sting AT ALL, the skin gets a little red afterward, but not hot, and it doesn't itch immediatly, but after awhile. Then it itches like crazy for 15 minutes or so, and goes away until the next shot!?!?!?!?:(

"Itch" sounds like an allergic thing to me. Is there any way you could be having an allergic reaction?

cos it doesnt linger for very long, althogh it must seem like forever, but sensitive, how much longer do you need to have it for, and have you spoken to your doc about it?

heparin is really thick stuff, so yeah speak with your doc post haste

I have my first post-op Wed. and will ask at that time. I don't really know what the deal is, my nurse sister in law says it just does that to some people. I have to do it for 3 weeks.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
