banded on 9/16 please tell me it is worth it...

Recommended Posts

I had terrible nausea the first night and into the morning until I could finally get some relief when the dr called in phergan. I hurt...please tell me this wasn't a mistake...I thought I would have bounced back better than I have!!

I was banded on the 14th, but my doctor gave me a nausea patch while still in the hospital so I did not experience that part. But I agree with everyone else, stick to it....I have already lost 5 pounds this week alone!! Just do as everyone else says and stick with it, their posts are helping me to adjust as well. I am already back at work today, but then again I have a desk job. I suppose I could have waited until Monday, but staying in the house was making me stir crazy!! :(

For me, it is so worth it all. I didn't do this for weight per se, I did it to get my health in better condition. My PCP told me I wouldn't see my 70's if I didn't do it. So far, I've lost 28 pounds and am proud of the lost. Oh yes, I would love for the weight to just fall off but that's not going to happen, so I am planning to work hard and take what I get.

I have to admit that I didn't have a huge amount of problems in the beginning. No pain meds or nausea meds. I did have gas pains a couple of days later but Gas-X took care of it plus a lot of walking. My doctor recommended liquid tylenol for pain and phenergan for nausea. I still haven't open either, so I feel very fortunate.

Please hang in there and everything will get better. Good luck.

To TJR4949:

I can't imagine that you have only lost 20 pounds in four years even with having a baby. Has your doctor said anything or offered you any advice about such a poor weight loss?

Please post some additional info on what has been happening and if we can help, there is a lot of experienced people that will be more than willing to help.

Thanks everyone. I am better today. Just weak and hurting a bit. I am really hungry, too. I am going to make mayself have 3 meals today and am going to make some blendarized Soup. I bought a bunch of yogurt and Protein Drinks before surgery and all of them are just too ssweet for me. Blech. I appreciate the encouragement!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
