Hi JennGA.

I have type 2 diabetes and was banded on Sept 11 this year.

During the pre-op diet something quite remarkable happened. I went from needing about 100u of insulin daily to less than 10! Since banding that number has dropped further (today I only took 2u and it was almost debatable whether I needed that).

I understand that since I'm on the liquid diet phase (and that is not as easy as it sounds, believe me) that things may change in the future. All I can say is that my surgeon is pretty confident that my diabetes will go into remission or go away altogether and I'm already reaping the benefits of not taking enough insulin to cure a diabetic horse!

Happy to answer any questions that you might have. All the best.

I'm type 2, have gone from glip/metformin 2 2xday to 1 2xday, still getting morning readings in the low 120's but after meals are in the mid 80's, so I'm guessing I'll be med free before too long.

I am type 2 diabetic also and since starting this journey I have gone from taking 2/1000 avandamet twice a day to just taking 1000 mg metformin once a day. My sugars the past month have averaged around 120.

I got the lapband put in 09/04/09 and my PCP believes I will be off all my meds shortly.

With my current numbers and the fact that I am still in the liquid portion I think I will be on the met a little bit longer but I am guessing before the new year I will no longer be taking met.

:(

I am type 2 and take Glucovance 500 2x daily. However, I do not test my blood sugars daily, only every 3 months with the A1C. My Dr said that some patients even leave the hospital not needing meds anymore! This is my whole reason for doing the surgery, I do not want to have this disease anymore! Hopefully I will not needs meds in a couple of weeks, I get banded Monday morning at 7:30am!

I am type 2 w/ PCOS. I usually have bg up to 140's in the AM but It goes down during the day due to overproduction of insulin when I eat and I am not eating 'bad' foods. If I eat inappropriate foods its up to 180 - 200.

I will stay on the metformin once i start eating (which I have today). I should have taken my bg in the AM while on liquid that would have been smart  So i had a baseline before starting the food. Today was my first day of mushies.

Metformin comes in liquid so will be starting that tomorrow. I've gained a lot of weight any time I quit metformin and i never lost it again after restarting so i don't want to mess with that.

Hi Jenn - my banding went really well - I got the single incision. I had pain but tolerable. A LOT of gas and I walked 1.5-2 miles daily. and lived on gasx. I lost a lot on the Protein liquid diet now I am on mushies and gained a bit back and now I am hungry. Soon as I started w/ food it calmed the gas and now I am a bit hungrier each day it seems. My biggest complaint is that i am usually working out (via horseback riding) and now that I can't my back is starting to hurt between them going thru my abs for this surgery and no exercise

Get my first fill in Oct 14.

When are you getting banded? or are you banded?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
