staples, stitches or glue?

Recommended Posts

I have staples closing my incisions. Seems like this is abnormal for bandsters. Anyone know why they use one method over another?

I got steri-strips. But then I was leaving Mx with no plans to return anytime soon so no stitches or staples for me to remove or have removed.

I got staples after my C-section? I don't know. I wonder what docs are thinking when they choose?

I don't know the answer to your question.

I had internal stitches and glue. Perhaps it's an individual doctor's preference?

Internal stiches and steri strips on the outside...seems to have worked just fine (I must have sticky skin because after 3 weeks I had to remove my steri strips as not one of them budged on their own). I did have staples with both of my C-sections and they were a breese to have removed (they made me feel a little more held together also).

Good luck,

No banded yet...but I had staples with both my C-sections also...gives you a bit of a fright if you hear it...just like the staple gun your hubby might have in the shed lol :)

I guess I'll get my staples out today. I asked my DH how they do it (like he would know?!?!) and he said with a staple remover like I had at the office that pops em out. Of course I was so tired I beleived this and started to freak out!!! What a mean hubby I have!

The closure, whether absorbable suture, glue, or staples is the surgeon's preference.

Surgical staples are removed with a small staple removal tool that most patients don't feel at all. Some say it is like a mosquito bite.

The benefit of staples is that they are more reliable since they don't fall out or get pulled out, and they quicker for the surgeon. The disadvantages of staples are that they must be removed in the office, and can leave a couple of small pinpoint scars where the staple enters the skin on each side of the wound.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
