Uncontrolable Gas

Recommended Posts

Ok, so this is sort of embarrasing. I had surgery on June 17th, I have uncontrollable gas most of the time. It wasn't this bad before I had surgery, but now it is like all the time. I have tried a few things to try and Detour having gas, but nothing is working. Does someone have some suggestions or things I can do?

Ohhhh...Hell yes!!!! I swear to god. I don't know where it all comes from. Honestly, I share an office with the Medical Director of our surgery center and I swear, if he comes in to sit at his desk, I am afraid to even get up with out fear of blowing him off his chair!!!!!!

When I get home from work and climb out of my truck to go into my condo, I swear to you that all my neighbors run cause it is a non stop fart until I get in my door. Good thing too as if I waited to do it till I got inside all my windows and doors would probably blow out.

I have tried about everything and nothing seems to help.

Best thing I have found is Gas-x Ultra Extra Strength liquid gels. You only have to take them 2x a day.

I have the same problem the OTC stuff doesn't work. I just had a fill on Tues and talked with my doc and he suggested Probiotics. So I looked up probiotics and there a lot of different kinds out there so I haven't figured out which one will work best. I am still researching but it seems from what I read thus far it might actually work. I am going to start with activa yogurt and see if I can take a supplement instead of that yogurt. As I usually it the carb masters yogurt that is chalked full of protein!

What is a probiotics? Is it prescribed or over the counter? I am going to get a fill again on Monday, I have the Realize Band and have 5.5cc is the band now. Hopefully it will be 7 on Monday. Gas X worked after I first had surgery, but it ain't working no more. I wish though.

If you keep good dental hygeine your breath will be find. Sneak a toothbrush and travel toothpaste in a baggie in your purse and you'll be fine. Or keep on in your car, at work, whereever you think you'll need it.

Your breath may be stinky in the liquid phase if it is no carb - because you go into ketosis and that is one sign of it. Shouldn't happen w/ food though?

Activa yogurt will help the gas. Also, buttermilk.

I had gas from both ends for months, and while it's lessening a little I still have it (esp. after I eat and at night).

Glad to know that I am not the only person with this problem. I will try the probiotics for sure. Thanks for making this post, I don't feel so bad now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
