NIght before surgery and STARVING!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

My surgery is in the morning and I am excited. HOwever tonight, all I can think about is all of the good food that I am gonna be missing out on. I have been on liquid diet for 2 weeks and on clears all day today and yesterday so maybe that is where it is coming from. All of those "good foods" are what got me in this position anyway. Im just so ready to eat normal food! I know this will be the best thing for me and I am really excited and ready to make the change. I guess its just the night before jitters!! Hope everyone else is doing great! NOw Im off to get a pedicure so my feet feel pretty!

Congratulations on getting banded in the morning!

I'm still a newbie, but I can guarantee that I would probably be starving too! Just mentally. Im sure you have conquered every bit of REAL hunger while you were on the liquid diet. So just hang in there...You're on your way!

It's an urban myth (lol) that you won't be able to eat once you have your band. I'm having a grilled cheese for dinner tonight in fact. (I'm just eating 1/2 and didn't use any oil or butter, but the point is I can eat it) Last night I had part of a rib eye steak. Some have a food or two they can't eat, some have more issues, and some don't have any trouble. So hang in there; you'll do great!

And you'll enjoy food again; just once you have restriction it will be MUCH smaller portions!

Dratdee,

My surgery is in the morning and I am also starving. I have to be at the hospital at 7:30 and I can't sleep, my stomach is growling. It didn't growl for the 4 weeks I did the shake diet, they weren't great but they satisfied my hunger. This clear liquid is tough.

I watched the re-runs of Grey's anatomy and Private Practice and each food commercial was like Water torture. I really want that rack of ribs from Appkebee's and I don't even like ribs. But they looked so tender and juicy......

I had to get away from the TV.

Good luck to you tomorrow.

I dread the 1 week of liquids after the surgery if this is how I feel now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
