Infected Band

Recommended Posts

Has this ever happened to anyone? It started out with port site pain that was very tender to touch...went to see the doc today and now I'm waiting to have a CAT Scan done. He said the band might have eroded.

In a situation like this would they revise it to a sleeve or gastric Bypass? I'm just scared because my weight loss is going great.

Not sure about that ,i was banded 6-26-08 and my port is still kinda sore to this day! My surgeon said that it is that way for some people but he said nothing was wrong with my port, best of luck to you!

I'm not talking about run of the mill soreness. It hurts to touch...I can't have anything on it. He says my band is most likely infected.

If I was in your situation I'd go with the sleeve over gastric.

I hope they are wrong about the infection. I think you would have to wait until that cleared up to get any revision. I would go with the sleeve too before I would do bypass. I just don't like the idea of my insides being messed up more than they have to be.

I am currently on my 3rd port infection in a little over a year. The first port was replaced - easy additional surgery. I had to wait a month to get a replacement which started to "look" infected so we treated it with IV antibios. I was fine for months and a recent flu has infected the port yet again. I am on IV drugs again and well know next week where we go from here. If you can get it replaced great - its an easy fix

If your incision site is red and hurts that is a sign your band has eroded. The infection travels from the band threw the tubing and into the port.

I only say this because I have had a port infection that is being treated with antibiotics for 2 months. I had and EGD done in August and my band has not eroded.

If the band had eroded it will have to be removed. Some surgeons revise, some surgeons wait for several months and try to reband. It is not suggested to reband.

I hope in your case it is not an erosion.

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
