Carrie_C 9 Posted September 17, 2009 I colored my hair on Monday and I really don't like the color. It turned out really brassy. I want to redo it but I'm unsure of how long I have to wait. Should I wait a week? Or longer? Also, does anyone recommend any good hair dyes? I used to use the Clairol Hydrience, but they discontinued it. I used the Loreal Excellence Cream this time and I really didn't like it at all.
samanthazzz 0 Posted September 17, 2009 I color my own hair. My hair grows so fast, I have gray again at about 7-11 days after coloring. I could not afford to go to a salon as I color my hair at least twice a month. I have dark hair, so the gray shows up. Bummer! But I would not look good as a blond..lol You can color it now. Just watch the timing carefully. As to what I like, my main criteria is creme color...less messy. Good luck!
baby ruth 1 Posted September 17, 2009 I had a color once I didn't like, and waited 7 days before I colored again. I also washed it the same day...didn't help much tho. I use Loreal Excellence Creme also, have for years now and color every 5-6 weeks or so. I tried the Garnier(spelling??) brand once and it didn't seem to cover my greys in the temple areas....but it smelled good. Ruth
Carrie_C 9 Posted September 18, 2009 Maybe it was just the color of the excellence cream that I didn't like. Maybe I will just try a different color of it. I don't have any gray (yet) but in the summer the ends of my hair tend to get really brassy looking and I don't like it, so that's why I dye it. But the color I picked just seemed to make the brassyness worse. I think I will try it again this weekend.
Nanook 2 Posted September 18, 2009 I prefer Garnier's (sp) and usually go champagne blond or ginger ale. I've also dyed my hair before and it was way too brassy and after a day or two would lighten it up with another dye because it would drive me crazy to have it the wrong color and I couldn't wait. A few months back mine was too brassy and in the cabinet was a very bleached looking blond color that one of my daughters had bought for a future use. I took it and left it on for just 10 minutes and that was long enough to lighten it but not have my hair fall out! Good luck, Nancy! Garnier also has an oil that you add to the mixture before mixing and it doesn't smell as bad as some of them do.
ThePoolGirl 1 Posted September 18, 2009 I tried coloring my hair. The waxy build up from the Crayons was a real bugger to get out. And don't even ask about the time I got too near the campfire....
margie2u 0 Posted September 18, 2009 Im a stylist and what ever you use dont use ash colors on gray hair. What ever the base color is in your color you use it will turn your white hair that color. Ash is a green base. Ash is also described as cool tones.
Jachut 487 Posted September 18, 2009 I'm dark so I dont have the brassy problem, I colour my own hair becuase the grey shows through so fast. I only use the 24 wash type things, as I find what happens when you colour your own hair is that you're often not very good at just doing the regrowth and eventually the colour builds up on the ends. I wouldnt touch my hair if it wasnt relatively short and so the ends are cut off before they get too dark. to be honest, if you've done a colour you dont like, and you've used a permanent colour, I wouldnt stuff around with it anymore, I'd seek professional advice to fix it. Many stylists will sell you colour to use at home and give you proper advice about how to use it too.
Melinco 1 Posted September 18, 2009 I color my own hair and have for years. I like Loreal's Feria. As the color fades (as they all do) my gray hair fades to gold and looks like well placed highlights. I recolor once my roots begin to drive me nuts, which is just about now! lol BTW, I use either Irredescent Dark Blonde or Irredescent Light Brown. Last summer I got my hair colored and highlighted professionally, but got tired of having to shell out $75 for it and still need touchups every 6 weeks or so. Much cheaper when you do it yourself. BandedCG 0 Posted September 18, 2009 I have tried it once because I have not patience. It was okay...but I went and got highlights afterward. I am so thankful that my mom is a beautician!
Carrie_C 9 Posted September 18, 2009 I can't afford to go to a salon. I am in nursing school and jobless at the moment, so that's not an option right now. I have colored my own hair for years. I just think I need a different color.
Divamom 1 Posted September 18, 2009 Love L'oreal products--use excellence most of the time but I change colors from Spring/Summer to warmer in Fall/Winter and I use Feria which is my favorite.
sandee 0 Posted September 18, 2009 I have used Nice and Easy for over 30 years. If you are going lighter, be sure you use one that says "ash". That takes away the brassiness. Plus, you can colo generally after 24 hours. Hope this helps.
