Do have Mirena?

Recommended Posts

I've been reading some old post on those of you that have Mirena for heavy bleeding. I'm wondering if there is anyone that it didn't help with this problem? Has anyone had weight gain since getting put in? Have you noticed a change in how fast your losing weight since you had it put in?

And, this may be awkward...but how do you check the"threads"? I've looked on the Mirena website and can't find that...it says your healthcare provider will show you how? Do you check the threads monthly?

One of the older post someone states that her partner didn't like nuva ring because he could feel it? Has anyone had there partner tell them they can feel it?

I've had my tubes tied since 1990.....never had any reason to give bc a second thought.... there are so many different choices now. I was only on the pill for 3 years before I had my daughter and not quite 3 years after...same pill both times and weight gain was the only problem I had with it. So, that's my excuse for asking dumb questions...naive.:)

I have not had Mirena, but I have tried the Nuvaring. I had a very hard time getting it in and I was always afraid it was going to come out somehow. So I didn't use it very long. But there are a few girls I know who use it and they love it.

I have had the Mirena for 2 yrs, I did not notice any problems with weight with it. I use it for BC. I tried the patch like 5 yrs ago ... that was a disaster ... EVIL patch, I felt so disconnected and I just didn't have any feelings for anyone not even my kids... that was horrid. took me 4 months to figure it out. Mirena so far so good.

I got my Mirena in January of 2007 for heavy bleeding. I had my surgery in September 2008. I have not had any problems with it. You can have your provider check the strings at the time of your annual or do it yourself. You have to reach up there towards your cervix. The easiest time to check is when you are in the shower. Sometimes it is possible for your partner to feel a little poke if the strings are too long. The strings are easily shortened. Hope this helps.

I now only have a period every 3-6 months. And it is much lighter. I also had my tubes tied in 1999 so my Mirena is for bleeding not birth control.

Thanks all for your input. I was thinking of a pill but the more I researched and after talking to you all....i think i will give this a try. It will be so nice not to have a period....but like I told my husband this doesn't get rid of the mood swings, lol. They have been awful, he says i've been a lunatic!

Thanks again, Ruth

Ive had my mirena for 5 years and love it. I'm actually going in Wednesday to have a new 1 inserted. I have a very light period every few months. never more than just light spotting. My doc says you should check placement every month.

And as far as if it can be felt during sex my boyfriend says he can feel it in certain positions but I'm not sure if he really can or it's just his imagination trying to boost his ego. Lol

lmao jennifer.

I was going to go with the pill yaz...but the more i researched yaz, i don't think i want to try it. Seems like mirena might have a lot loss risks or side effects than yaz.

Well when I first started this thread I thought all I had to do was decide what type of birth control to use to control my heavy periods. But, its not that simple. I have a pre-op consult Friday to have a cyst removed from my right ovary. The Dr tells me that I have a 14cm x14cmx14cm cyst. I had to google and convert that to inches....thats 5.51 inches square(not really but you know what I mean). She explained that I couldn't wait on this and so now I go talk to the Dr that will do surgery. The good news is that she said it looks like Fluid and no real tissue.

So the internet junkie that I am, I had to check this out. Sometimes one can really have to much info...ya know. I just get myself more worked up.

What experiences can anyone share with me on this? This appears to be a big cyst. I've had my tubes tied for almost 19 years now...so I really don't care what they have to take out. I really need to hear from anyone that's been thru this.

I just had 2 cysts removed from my left ovary last month. I'm not sure how they will do yours, but they just went in with a camera through my belly button and drained them. I had to have a laparoscopy, but I also had endometriosis that had to be removed. So yours might be different.

Update...

So after talking to the another dr and he had the results from the second reading of the ultrasounds, it appears that the large Fluid mass is not attached to the ovary. They will be removing it and he's not too concerned about it. The right ovary does have a solid mass inside it, which he said could very well be scar tissue but it will be sent to pathology along with the other stuff. I have several fibroid tumors that will also be removed, and we aren't concerned about those either because apparently they are common. And last but not least I'm having ablation to stop my periods...yeah.

Of the two possibles on the large Fluid mass, one is pretty gross, I told my hubby I have to see it no matter what. I told him I would take a pic and show him and he declined. He said "some mysteries are better left mysteries and he was fine with that mystery". lol.....i think he has been totally grossed out but very supportive.

When the doctor drained the cysts on my ovary and removed the endometriosis, he took pictures and gave them to me. They are neat, in a gross kind of way, lol!

how did you ladies do with insertion of mirena? i had mine inserted today and passed out in the doctors office. i've never fainted before so that threw me a little bit. i've had severe cramping all day and have been using a heating pad off and on as well. i like to think i have a high threshold for pain but that was a bit rough today. the cramping has begun to subside but woo what an event it was

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
