confused and irritated

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is tomorrow. I've been on a liquid diet for the last week, and have only managed to lose 6lbs. The whole point of the liquid-only diet is to lose fat/shrink liver so now I'm worried my uber-strict surgeon won't operate. Anyone else have this issue? I hope I'm just retaining water!! This is suprising and frustrating.

Well you've lost 6 pounds in 7 days. What did you expect? Did he give you a liquid diet and say "do this 7 days and lose 25 pounds"? because unless you are REALLY edemetous there's no way you're losing a large amount in a week.

Did he tell you to lose a specific amount? Did he tell you how long to be on the liquid diet? Did you follow his direction? If you did what he told you to for the length he told you to, then odds are high you'll be fine.

I agree with Restless Monkey six lbs in a week sounds pretty good to me. I think everthing will be fine. Don't stress about it . . . the stress is worse for you. Try to relax and get ready for surgery!!!!

thanks Ladies. Dr. Fontana seemed pleased with my weightloss, and even commented that my liver looked fantastic. Unfortunately, He still had to make extra incision b/c of a hernia in my stomach (which I didn't even know I had!). Otherwise surger went great. I was freaking out about the weight loss b/c I had heard stories of women losing 10-15lbs! Utlimately, I was scared he would think I didn't follow the diet adn not operate! Thanks again!

I lost 32 on my 5 week preop diet so I would've scared extra pounds off you! LOL

We're all different. We each just have to do our own personal best! :(

(it's ok anyway, I gained back part of that until I finally hit my sweet spot 5/7 this year!)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
