I am from IL and have bcbs and I am happy to say that I was approved. I must admit that I did jump thru hoops, but nonetheless, I was approved. My fingers are crossed for you both. Good Luck

It took me less than a week to find out. I have to say that I was denied at first, but then I had to go back and jump thru bc/bs hoops. When I resubmitted in 6/09 it was no more than a week to get approved.

Hi! I am from IL. It took only 3 weeks for BCBS to approve my surgery. Banded 9/11/09. I started calling them as soon as I knew they received my paperwork to check on the status. They will tell you they have nothing on file, but you need to continue to call them.

I too am from IL and BCBS and just went in for my weigh in today and was told they received my approval letter. It took about 3 weeks since they sent it off until today so not too long. BCBS has changed their qualifications and it is much easier. You only have to do 3 months of diet, psych eval and that is basically all. I see Dr. Lehmann at Silver Cross. I have my surgery date of Oct 27!!! I am sooo excited yet soooo nervous now that I have the actual date.:smile2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
