emjay 8 Posted September 15, 2009 I notice that I can make my band feel instantly tight by drinking ice Water or very cold beverage. I've asked this question of my doctor's office but never really got an answer as to why this happens. I know many people have problems with cold liquids or foods. Any of the nurses out there or experienced bandsters have an answer? Is it a stomach or esophageal spasm or something else? I can drink it cold, but have to do so very slowly. So how about it? Or just provide your theory...
ParrotheadCathy 0 Posted September 15, 2009 Cold doesn't seem to bother me at all! I drink ice Water all day long. Hot, on the other hand, helps relax my band in the early morning on those days I wake up feeling a little tight.

RestlessMonkey 7 Posted September 15, 2009 (edited) I drink Iced tea, cold Water, I eat leftovers directly from the refrigerator, no problems whatsoever. On the rare occasions that I have, say, a frozen cocktail, ice cream, a milkshake...no problems there either. Very cold (and very hot) liquids can cause esophageal spasms in some people. If it causes you pain, just avoid cold stuff, or hold it in your mouth a little longer so your body can warm it. It's no unlike, say, eating a popsicle or snow cone too fast when you were a kid and "freezing your throat". Usually it requires a quantity of the "offending item" ingested fairly quickly. Slowing down should help Edited September 15, 2009 by RestlessMonkey
Jachut 487 Posted September 16, 2009 I dont like cold. It can give me a really painful belly ache. I hate cold fruit! I always have to take fruit out of the fridge the night before and bring it up to room temperature and when I take salads to work for lunch, I take them out of the fridge an hour before to warm up a bit. But that's not the band so much as me, I was always like that. I dont have sensitive teeth but there's something about the sensation of cold food that I really dislike.
