How much in your first year?

Recommended Posts

I purposely didn't set a "number" goal that was related to a certain time on the calendar. My goal was to be thinner in a year than I was at surgery. If I worry about numbers or about comparing myself to others, I get very discouraged. For this reason, I compare myself only to me. As my weight comes off, I may set mini-goals but never in a certain time frame. Right now, I'm close to 50 lbs lost since surgery (June 29), but I don't have a time frame for when I will lose it, only that I will lose it.

Does that make sense? I find myself able to cope better by not competing with a calendar

I had hoped to lose 100 the first year, but I lost 82 instead. I am extremely pleased with my loss. Also, I have just recently had a 3 month plateau end. What is so amazing is that, prior to being banded, a plateau that long would have sent me into a eating frenzy, because I would've thought, "why not, I'm not losing anyway." My band helped me keep my weight stabilized until I began losing again. I LOVE MY BAND!!!!

I think that you've hit the nail on the head, at least as far as I'm concerned. I thought when I went on a two week vacation and made poor choices, I would gain weight. I think because I was liimited in how much I could eat, I didn't lose, but most importantly, I didn't gain. I'm not losing as fast as I would like but if I had wanted to lose weight fast, I would have had the by-pass.

Thanks everyone for your comments....I will admit I am struggling at the moment with my food choices, I tend to go for the foods that I think/know will go down easiest which I know is not the right thing to do, but I am working on it now that I have realised that is what I have been doing. I am happy with my weight loss so far, I am happy losing gradually as long as it does come off eventually - just feels like forever!! The last fill I had has definately helped so I feel as though I am on my way again now...hope it lasts!! Thanks again - your all an inspiration to me!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
