Nicotine Blood Test

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of anyone that has failed this or been denied due to this test? I wonder how long it takes to clear the blood? I have quit for about a month or so, but slipped a little over the weekend. I wonder when it will be safe for me to pass the blood test? I have passed all of my insurance requirements 6 month pre-op diet, psych eval, dietetic consult, etc. My insurance called me this morning and told me I was approved...yaaayyyy...but I am scared about being denied for the blood test that I will probably have to take next week.

I can't beleive I did that this weekend....I could seriously KICK myself!

Anybody???

I don't know for sure but THINK it can take up to a week or two to clear. It depends on many things, including how much is "slipped a little bit" If you're going to be tested before then you're safest to just tell your surgeon.

I use the patch so I hope that is not an issue. I would be very upset about that. My doctor never mentioned a test.

The patch releases VERY low levels of nicotine into your bloodstream. If your surgeon wants to test you, just tell him you're on the patch and will test positive because of it. I'm sure he can adjust the results accordingly.

I used chewing tobacco all the way up to the day before I had the blood work done and they never said anything about it. I haven't used it since and I'm so happy about that!! I think I have one of the rare surgeons that will do the surgery even if you use tobacco product because I was never even asked about it.

I am new to this whole thing. Does the surgery require that you not use tobacco before? after? and why?

Many surgeons require you do not smoke because of the multiple deleterious effects on the body (lungs don't recover from anesthesia, wounds don't heal as quickly due to restricted blood flow, etc)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
