So my fellow Banditos...EXERCISE???

Recommended Posts

This is great that everyone's trying to get some exercise in here and there. I think it has made a big difference for me compared to other times when I have lost weight. This is the first time I've really made a point to add any exercise. I don't do a lot compared to some people, but considering I have fibromyalgia and arthritis and I used to never be able to do anything without severe pain, I'm happy to be moving at all! I use a pedometer and walk wherever/whenever I can. Now that school has started, I walk my son to school, which is 1 mile round trip every morning before work. That helps wake me up! lol I also try to get in a 30-min. walk around the neighborhood at least 3x/week. Over the summer, I started doing Water aerobics (*loved* it) and Water walking/jogging. That was awesome exercise. I'm looking into joining the rec center so I can continue my pool exercise throughout the winter.

Oh, and I take the stairs now instead of the elevator -- that is huge for me. I injured both knees when I was 19 and now they are full of arthritis, so stairs were impossible for me -- up or down. Now I can do them! I'm slow as a turtle, but who cares? I'm doing it!!

ValJean, that's amazing the amount of exercise you do. That Bikram yoga is wild! My boss does it and he swears by it -- tries to convince everyone in the office to try it. I'm afraid I would pass out!

Keep up the great work, everyone! :mad2:

Ann, that's awesome that you can take the stairs now! I bet that feels great for you, both physically and mentally. My sister has arthritis as well and I know how painful it is for her, so congrats to you on doing exercise, that's a great accomplishment! :mad2:

Spidey how wonderful you can walk your son to work. I always find that some of my best bonding memories was walking with someone.

Carrie I have to admit I don't like Jillian Michaels I find her a bit annoying but the work out is really good. Its short so for the day I dont have time I feel VERY worked out in 20 minutes. I am still on the stage 1 workout but I've only had that one of a week so hopefully someday I will be able to graduate to the next stage

Val I love Bikrams Yoga I havent done it in years there is no place near by that does it. I felt so relaxed and well after doing it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
