Looking for someone like me..

Recommended Posts

I am looking for someone that is in the same age/height/weight range to find out how you have progressed with your band. Just wondering how the loss works for someone with a lower BMI. I am 35/5'7"/224lbs. I appreciate any help, getting ready to schedule surgery, I know everyone is different but want to see a range of what I am looking at as far as loss goes. Thanks!!

I have a lower BMI but I am a bit older and a bit shorter than you. I'm 46, 153cm and my starting weight was 74kg(163lb). My surgeon told me that due to my low BMI I would probably lose all of my excess weight where as they calculate an average of 50 - 60% of excess weight lost as being the average.

I had surgery on 2 June and am down to 59kg(130lb). I feel great and can still eat most foods albeit a lot less and a lot slower than previously. I got my 4th fill last week and am sitting on about 2.6ml in a 10ml band. I live in Australia where the protocol is to fill very slowly. I think that this last fill has probably brought me close to my sweet spot.

I have been told by one of the assistants that does fills that my weight is now acceptable and that as I have lost more than 90% of my excess weight I am considered to be a success. I still want to lose another 7kg which would bring me back to the weight I was 5years ago after being on Reductil - I didn't manage to maintain it for long!

Good luck with your upcoming surgery. I am sure you will soon be on your way to becoming FAB!

I am so glad that I got banded. I could not have done this on my own.

It works great! I was 37/230/ and 5'6 when I started this process 10 1/2 months ago! I am so, so happy with the results I have had so far.

I've been keeping a blog and tracking my progress since the beginning, complete with comparison photos, etc. Link is below -- feel free to check it out!

Also, check out Lise the Loser's blog (link on my blog). She started several months before me and also had similar stats.

Congratulations on your decision! Definitely be sure to take your measurements (and a few "before" photos) as soon as possible, if you haven't already! It will be pretty incredible to be able to look back and see all of your progress!

Best wishes,

Catherine

I was 38, 5ft 10 and 245lb when I got banded. i am now 150lb at 42.

I lost weight quite slowly compared to some, none of this 100lb in 9 months stuff, it took me a good 2 years to lose it, but it was steady and I lost well over 100% of my "excess" taking me well below the top of the normal BMI range.

I also ended up with very little loose skin. I've got enough that I feel a bit dejected about it from time to time but really, you cant tell i was ever as fat as I was.

Catherine I read your blog and have just looked at Lise's, you guys are an amazing inspiration! Thank you all for your posts, it is so wonderful to know that this time next year I will be a new person, I can't wait to get started!

t is so wonderful to know that this time next year I will be a new person, I can't wait to get started!

It really is amazing! You can see when I started that I could hardly believe I'd be down 40 lbs by April! Fast forward a few months, and I'm down almost 60! It has really changed so much about how I feel about my weight and appearance, and I am feeling really great.

Best,

Catherine

I had a low BMI but did this for health reasons.

My weight was 205 at 5'5" so my BMI was just at 35-36.

I did the liquid diet for 4 weeks to really shrink the liver that I had been told was fatty and I lost 18 lbs.

I was banded on Friday and right now I am down to 184, my goal is 145 but that is a high goal, once I reach that I will change it I am sure.

I am very sore today and have a gas bubble in my right shoulder that won't move, but I feel like it was a good idea now even though I was questioning myself Thursday night.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
