dukepedsnurse 0 Posted September 13, 2009 Hi everyone...quick question...I am having quite significant port pain. The surgeon told me this is from the port being attached to abdominal muscles. It only hurts when I walk which I am sure is because I have such an extra amount of weight in my belly that is pulling it down (law of gravity). Does anyone have any suggestions or have gone through this that can tell me how long this lasts? Thanks:smile2:
LSU Mom 0 Posted September 14, 2009 I had the same thing about 3 weeks after surgery. I put on a "spanx" and it went away! I was surprised and found it out on accident. Was going to a funeral and had to wear a dress so I put my Spanx on and was like WOW!!! This makes everything feel better!! I guess holding it all in and together helped. I don't have that issue anymore (5 weeks post op now) so I don't wear it anymore. Hope this helps.
Portola Suzanne 3 Posted September 14, 2009 You can go to the pharmancy and by a rib support, they are about $20 and worth ever penny. I wore it for about two weeks after surgery because of the pain when I walked. It just holds your middle so it doesn't jiggle when you walk. Good luck on your journey! kittkat2009 0 Posted September 14, 2009 I was given a tummy support to wear for the first week and I've had minimal pain from any of the incisions cos I'm not jiggling... I'm 4 days post op today.
dawnp 0 Posted September 14, 2009 I am 5 days post op and my port pain seems to be getting a little worse today. I noticed it is somewaht swollen and sticks out a bit. Is anyone else's swollen? I might call tomorrow if it gets worse. I think I will try a tummy support too.
LSU Mom 0 Posted September 14, 2009 Don't worry! I got worse before I got better too! My port area was swollen for about 2 weeks and I questioned my doctor about it. A few things he told me was that the swelling takes about 3 - 4 weeks to go completely down, the port area will have some discomfort as the swelling goes down because your abdominal wall is reacting to a foreign object attached to it and you will feel some "spasms" as it reacts to it. My port area is still protruding somewhat but I have noticed in the past few days that its getting "flatter" and - am almost 6 weeks post op. Hope this helps ease your mind. dukepedsnurse 0 Posted September 15, 2009 Thanks everyone for your posts..I am just getting very frustrated that the port pain is not improving. I am also having spasms that feel like are my esophagus not my stomach...I am just anxious and want to be able to feel some relief...Tomorrow will be POD #7 and I still feel as bad as I did POD #1...
