Question about artifical sweetners

Recommended Posts

Im sorry if there was a thread on this but I didn't see it. I was just wondering if anyone else has a very hard time using anything sweetened with splenda, sweet-n-low, and equal. Im trying to figure out if there is actually a good artifical sweetner because these three make me sick every time I try to drink or eat anything with them in it! Any suggestions?

i gave them all up, as i experienced a metallic taste after the fact.

i will add stevia, to tea - more so for my husband; me, i could really go w/out.

My father can't take the artificial sweeteners. The results are... um... explosive. He just drinks beverages that don't get sweetened. He's diabetic so he can't take the regular sugar versions of drinks either.

Might want to try Agave Nector. It's natural, no chemicals. It's consistancy is like honey. I get mine in the organic section of Giant Grocery Store, but any oraganic store would have it. You can also cook with it.

Oh! and Diabetics can use it too!

What does the agave taste like? I've seen it in the stores and have been meaning to buy some, but they sell light and amber and I don't know which to buy. Does it have a honeyish flavour? Or is it more molasses-like? Or something completely different?

I think your best bet is to retrain your taste buds and learn to eat sweet foods only in moderation. For day to day eating, you should be focussing on non sweet foods, not replacing all the foods you used to eat with artificially sweetened versions.

In some camps it is believed that artificial sweetners have all the same effects on blood sugar and body chemistry that sugar does anyway, so apart from a relatively modest calorie saving there's really no advantage to imbibing what is arguably a product with no health benefits and even dangers.

drink plain Water and plain coffee and tea on a daily basis and ENJOY the real thing when you want something sweet! Just have it only every now and then.

I get complex Migraines when I eat artificial sweetners or MSG for that matter...

Try the stevia in the raw...the other stevia brands may use some chemicals.

Also, be wary of the liquids for medical testing, fills, and even medicines.

:cursing:FYI sucralose on a label is also known as splenda.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
