Some people are hungry right away and others aren't for several days. Personally, I wasn't until two weeks had passed. I think a lot of it is "head hunger" instead of real hunger. Drink some broth or eat some Jello. It helped me.

Maria, you're going through what many bandsters lovingly call "bandsters hell" (if you do a search for the term you'll get many hits). Most likely have very little, if any, fill in your band. Bandsters go through this period with varying degrees of hunger, but if you have very little swelling, the fluids that you're taking are going straight through the banded area. The doctor wants you on fluids now because your stitches are healing and if you eat solid food the digestion process will cause your stomach to churn and that coupled with the possibility of eating something that could get stuck might lead to possible serious problems down the line. Band slippage being one. If the hunger becomes unbearable, call your doctor. He might suggest an added Protein Shake, or something to that effect. Two weeks is pretty typical to stay on fluids. If you feel tempted to munch on something try to focus on those stitches and how important it is to let them heal for your longterm health and success with the band. Good luck.

I was also banded on the 9th but havetn been like HUNGRY!! My dr allows "pureed" foods for first 4 weeks. Amazing how Baby food tastes pretty good. I usually can't even eat one portion of it before I am full. I take the swwet potatoes and mix with a little chix or turkey or ham add a bit of protien to it a a sm bit of butter brown sugar and cinn and warm it up.. VERY yummy. As I can tolerate I can start to ticken the pureed, , Today had about 1/4to 1/2 c refried Beans with a bit of cheese. Really good. Eat very slow... drink very slow.. find that I fell full most of the time. Started at 3-5 times a day with purees and will work to stay there. Add juice ,milk or Water or other liquid as needed to thin your food down.. that is my dr orders you have to follow your own. Down a couple more pounds already. Also had my gall bladder removed same time 6 holes and total of 22 staples. One incision has 8. OUCH!! Using my new tool to help me beat the game of obesity. Started this process 1 yr ago at 276 now down to about 248 most of it lost in the last month, down from a 24 to a 20 and even can fit into some 18!! Keep the faith and focus on healing, with God all things are possible!! Good luck on your journey!!

I woke up with hunger pains the day after surgery :tongue2: I was on liquids for 2 weeks and it was NOT FUN AT ALL! Some lucky bandsters aren't hungry for the first few weeks but I was definately not one of them. Oh, and Protein Shakes did not feel me up, AT ALL  I made it though, you can do it!

My Doctor has me on liquids for 2 weeks then I start the puree foods. I'm trying to drink my Protein Shakes, I'm on medifast but everytime I drink a shake I'm running to the bathroom.I will call the office tomorrow and see what they say.I know the first 6 weeks are all about the stomach healing and getting used to the band.I think my first fill will be then, not quite sure since I'm so new to all of this.I wish everyone all the luck with there new journey and the ones already on there journey!!!!:tongue2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
